this is not only a trucking industry problem, it is a society issue. they don't act like this because they drive a truck, their is a little more to it.

looks like he left himself no out. lol
but in reality there is a lack of truck parking in many areas of the country, you have rest areas with huge car areas, enough picnic tables to feed an army (which are rarely used) and 15 truck spaces. , many truckstops have closed and the parking is blocked off, and the inflexibility of the 14 hour rule has turned many into solar truckers.
when the sun goes down the trucks must shut off as apparently they are solar powered.
and you cant always plan a trip to perfection, some act as if a traffic backup, a wreck, weather , unexpected dot check, getting held up loading or unloading never occurs.
the type trailer one pulls also affects a schedule a truck runs, not many times with a flat or van will you load or unload at 2 am like you might with a reefer.
with a flat i try to reload the same day i unload, so i like to start my day where i wont run past the 14 hour clock before 7pm. most flat loads you wont have to arrive before 7am so i dont like to start the day much before 6 am , that way i can unload and have plenty of hours to get next load.
if you start say at 12 midnight your would end at 2 pm and you might miss some loads.
fact is if you arrive at a truckstop early you can in fact pick spots where you wont get blocked in, may not be 3 feet from the door.
and you also have to consider that if a truck runs out of hours for whatever reason, he has to park and late at night you have to do what one must do.
this happens and has always happened in some places. it is the nature of the beast somewhat, .
one investment would be a truckstop directory, very handy to find little stops with parking , for example at the mentioned texarkana j, there is a lot across the street that charges 5 dollars to park , at exit 2 there are 2 small fuel stops, the texas rest areas and the hooks truckstop at 208.
there once was a large union76 in texarkana that is now long gone.
what works for me if i get blocked in is wake the guy up when i am ready to leave. -
Plus they have those truck parking areas on I30 west of Texarkana. I forget the MM.
