The clothes I think the IRS would question. If it is something you can use outside of the truck they will not allow, clothing with company logo they will.

So I'd have to get out of the truck naked if I took the deduction???? -
I think the last time I looked clothes were listed with no real specifications other than work clothes. I know cbs and related equipment were listed and there was stuff like entertainment expenses. You could go eat dinner and watch a movie on your break and as long as you were out on the road somewhere because of work, you could write all that off too.

Anything that you can use for around the house that you use in your job you cannot claim. Steel toe boots you can claim as these are not a common item.
Work Clothes and Uniforms
You can deduct the cost and upkeep of work clothes if the following two requirements are met.
- You must wear them as a condition of your employment.
- The clothes are not suitable for everyday wear.

jlkklj777 Thanks this. -
Hmm, they tweaked it a bit. Too many people must have abused it to buy stuff that they obviously wouldn't wear to work.

i have always taken that deduction. when ya stay out 300 days a year you dont use em much anywhere else.
never had a problem in many many years. and in fact the boots are left in truck when i get home.
you just got to categorize them just right, and a few things are different with o/o vs company driver.
many things fit under business expenses -
and i do wear jeans as a condition of employment, many of my load sheets, state right on the load details " driver must wear pants""
i kid you not one bit, thats a direct quote. -
You can't deduct jeans and most likely can't deduct the carhartt either. They aren't uniforms.
-
I generally deduct the same thing, I just allowance out 40 dollars a month for work clothes and write off like 440-480 a year on schedule C.
I don't wear clothes at home most of time less someone comes over.
I also deduct all phone service except basic 10 dollar a month service wouldn't have no celluar crap except for trucking. -
So,..........
can he deduct the cell phone ??
