If they don't have the paperwork, you can get the serial number off the engine and go to any authorized dealer and they can look up the engine and tell you what was done, as long as the work was performed at an authorized dealer.

Oh well, Kenworth has been sold already.
That was one nice truck..
I was looking at some trucks on auctiontime.com... They have got some nice 2005 Pete 379 up for auction there for like $20000.. I also saw a 2000 IH for like $6000. Bidding is ending tomorrow. Do u have any experience buying a truck from an auction? -
Thanks a lot SHC... I will definately call them tomorrow and find out about this truck..

Is there a website where we can put truck's VIN# and check the truck history report like carfax/autocheck? What about the truck retail and trade-in Values? are there any websites like that?

If you have the cash or letter of credit you can sometimes get a good deal at one of the major auctions. You need to take a little more care. It is possible to check out trucks prior to the date of the sale. When you buy at an auction you buy as is where is. In other words, it will be up to you to check the truck prior to bidding and then arrange to get the truck home. A word of caution about auctions. Some people can get caught up in the fast pace of bidding. You need to decide your maximum bid on anything that you are thinking about buying. Unless you watch what you are doing you can easily pay more than the truck is worth. I have gotten a good deal at a auctions, but have also seen others pay more than retail. -
Which one? The 2006 FL with APU or the 2000 IH?

I know a little bit about car auctions as i bought my car from a public auction. One can save money if he knows the VALUE of the car.
At auction if the RED light is on that means the car is going to be sold as is and if the GREEN light is on that means the engine and the transmission has warranty for like "2-3 Hours". If i buy the green light car, I can drive around, have it inspected by a mechanic. If the engine or the transmiision has any problem, I can return the car within "2-3 Hours".
Does the samething happens at the truck auctions? Red light, Green light? How do i find the retail value of the truck? -
I have been following this thread with interest as I am hoping to make the jump later this year. Debating whether to put down 30k on a nice truck or buy and older high mileage truck to run for a year or two and bank the extra into Maint fund. With that said whould any of the O/O's even consider this. http://www.schneidertrucks.com/inventory/specsheet/?ID=3533959
abcofcric Thanks this. -
I was listening to ATBS on xm a couple of weeks ago and they are starting to sponsor a website that does a similar check to carfax. Can see who has owned the truck, how many inspections have been done to it and what violations it has against it by DOT. That right there may save you a lot. I know if you call in during the show the will run it on the show for you and explain it all.abcofcric Thanks this.
