Thats the part that makes no sense. Why is it ok AFTER you lease a truck? Theres no logical reasoning to a policy like that. I'll stick with my original answer. It may just be they are yanking your chain for some reason. A policy that makes no sense like that usually means its not the policy just driver lore. Theres a lot of that on the IC side for some reason.

I asked about it a couple of years ago...and was told I would have to get one of their trucks...then proceeded to laugh him plumb off the phone when he quoted me the price of the already 1/2 worn out truck that had already paid for itself once...I found it funny that he was expecting me to pay nearly what Maverick pays for them new (over $50,000 for a Freightliner with almost 600,000 miles...LMAO)

Ok two years ago they were leasing 2007 trucks with no more than 475k,so that part of your story is wrong. They got into trouble shortly after they began leasing trucks with advertising one thing and having another (advertised trucks to lease with no more than 425k but were leasing high mileage trucks pretty regular ),they also had drivers blowing engines in those high mileage trucks and leaving Maverick with the bill due to the fact Maverick leased them something other than advertised. It came down from on high that would stop or someone would lose their job, meaning J.J. The lease payment on the 2007 was approx $250/wk for 36mo with a $11k buyout so do the math and figure out its NOT $50k. Now go up the street to freightliner and buy you a truck with less than 500k on it and see if you get it for $50k before adding in financing. Does Maverick make money on the lease? Sure otherwise they wouldnt do it. Does a bank make money on the loan they give you for the same truck? You bet your butt they do! Mavericks lease is the best of any company out there and I have looked at most all of them. Dont want to lease thats fine but dont put crap out there that is half truths. Why do you think they quit leasing trucks for awhile? Because all the trucks had too many miles. The Cascadias they are leasing in some cases have less than 200k on them. I personally checked one out that had just 165k on it and the lease on them will beat anything you get from the dealer for same truck.

Jimthehut I will ask Joe next time I talk to him about what you heard. Until then any drivers interested in bringing their own trucks over Id advize you to call recruiting. Im still seeing Maverick ads in owner operator truckstop books so I'll assume they are still hiring o/o's. It maybe they are just getting a little more picky about trucks.

    Hey Dan,
I worked for Maverick and left about a year ago. Been rolling the thought of getting into my own truck and am considering doing it with Maverick. You seem to be making money, when i left i was running dedicated for AK steel and was clearing aprox 700wk and home every weekend. How often do you go home? I have wife and kids so thats a big one. I live in Akron, Oh. Do they still run alot of loads out of Ft. Smith to Cleveland Akron area? What are fuel prices like for you with the discount? What kind of upfront expenses will i have with leasing a truck through Maverick?

I go home most weekends like most company drivers. I watch expenses, keep maintenance in control, and idle as little as possible and set my cruise at 1300rpm/62mph most times. My truck is one of two t600 kw maverick has so my mpg's are less than the Cascadias. I turn few loads down but if I feel a load is too cheap and takes me to an area that wont be any better then I wont take it. The last load I turned down was just a short run from MS to seMo and it was a weekend run! I said no thanks because it didnt get me anywhere near home which is what the csr was attempting to do. So they loaded me on a 900mi run to MI for the weekend. That doesnt always happen that way but I wanted to give you an idea of ny reasoning behind turning it down. Had it been a next day delivery Id have taken it. There is no up front cost for the lease aside from what you feel you need to have saved for just in case. They tarps etc they will finance at something like 60/wk or so til paid off but it wont hurt your check much. Mind your expenses, utilize your hours as efficiently as you can and you will do fine. Im averaging approx 60cpm after expenses for all miles. You will need to set aside some of that for taxes I recommend 30%. Health insurance is whatever you can get Maverick currently offers no major medical to its IC's. Yes we still run lots of steel your way :) If memory serves correct your fixed expenses on the Cascadias should be around $550-600 (dont let that scare you, these are very low mileage trucks with APU's) and when I say fixed I mean truck payment, insurance, permits etc. Your only variable will be fuel and the 12% maintenance which is 12% of linehaul only. However when I gave you my average after expenses that is after everything before Maverick cuts a check to your settlement. Some guys will bs ya and say they are taking home a lot more per mile but unless they have their truck paid off they arent. I think at least for me anyway that 60cpm is decent since I can call my own shots when or if I need to. Only way to make more is to go it totally alone 100% owner operator and pray you can get and keep customers and that they pay their bills. Any questions feel free to ask.
