Starting out tarping and securing the load properly will probably take some practice.

You also have to count on them telling what the freight actually pays. Good luck with that. IIRC when things were really bad in '09 they were pulling for $.65 a mile? I read that on this site in the TMC forum.

Ok well if you don't mind going that slow then fine.just be a good driver and wave to the other drivers as they pass (of course if they are waving at you) some drivers do wave but some seem so ashamed or have blinders on that they don't even want to acknowledge someone.

I start my third week of school on Monday. After reading all I can find on here I think I'm going to go with the tankers. I am scheduled to start with Schneider on 02/23 and there is a chance that I may get an opportunity with Superior.

I'm attending Schneider tanker orientation near Pittsburgh beginning Wed. 1/25. I'll give you my impression of tankers and Schneider. Maybe it will help you decide who to drive for. Sorry I couldn't reply to the message you sent me several weeks ago. I hadn't made the minimum of 7 posts in order to send a private message. (This might be number 7 for me tho.)

I can't wait to see if they live up to your expectations. Hope you like the right lane.

Well, there has been a change of plans. I have accepted employment with McElroy Truck Lines and start orientation in Pleasant Hill, NC on 03/12/2012.

I've been reading through all these posts. Mostly I've come away with don't work for Swift, Enlgland or Werner. I will start training in March. An 8 week course that I'm paying for because I don't what to be locked in with a company. I considered USA at one time but I haven't read much about them here. OK, Not Ok?

I'm certainly no expert, but I've read the same information and came to the same conclusion. I paid for my training as well so I wouldn't be locked into a contract. There are threads on here about USA Truck. Just put their name in the search box at the top and you'll find all the information you want. I considered them but decided I wanted to do flatbed or tanker and ultimately decided on flatbed.

Thanks. I'm not sure yet if I want to do flatbed. I do want to get as many endorsements as possible so I'm going to work on all of those while I'm in school. I'm starting to think now, it may be more important to try and get a regional company that is close to home which is Virginia. But I'll admit, I've got no clue if that even should be something to worry about. I'm going to do OTR for at least a year. Thanks for the reply.
