ive been looking at this company for a while, judging by the posts here on van wyk it sounds like a good place, im currently working for a similarly sized company based just outside of cedar rapids, who i first started with back in late 2002, it was a good company till the owner handed it off to the kids, and it has been going straight down hill for the last couple years. i live along the i-86 corridor in upstate ny, and have a bit of past reefer experience from transam trucking back in the late 90's. clean record and cdsa score, and have a few questions.

what is starting cpm/ bonuses(im not looking for instant riches, just as long as i dont wind up sitting for hours after each and every delivery like at my current company, and thats with lots of hours left.)?

ive seen the equipment, but what kind of power train?apu/espar heater, fridge, average condition and how well do they keepmaintenance,

usual running area? is nyc forced, and how are they about being legal(like e-logs, im currently on them now and prefer them)?

how mch time at home per week, and do they at least keep drivers busy if they choose to be out 2-3 weeks or more, and what kind of sleeper amenities if driver is out on road for 34 hour reset?

    thanks.:yes2557:

Van Wyk does have a web site. They have real nice roomy trks. You can get home every weekend. They go to Boston alot. They will keep you running if you choose to stay out.No pets allowed.Their main headquarters is in Sheldon,IA.I don't know what their starting pay is but it's probably on the web site. www.vanwyk.com With your work history and out going personality,I don't see any problem getting hired on with Van Wyk.

Forgot to mention, their is no forced dispatch and the company wants to keep it that way but some of the drivers I guess can be the unreasonable type to work with.

We get paid percentage. As stated it works out to around 40 CPM. NO worries about sitting around too much. We are all clean nosed elog folk now, for better for worse. Bonus is based mostly on idle time (no APU but we do have Espar and fridge) You get 10% in the winter and as high as 35 or 38% in August. 4 cents an odometer mile means an extra $200 every other week.

We should be getting recruiting bonuses! Lol How many of you are here because of this thread? *raises hand*

Anyone know if you can park at the Acme DC in Denver, PA?

Yes indeedy do you can Mr. Bechtel. I guess I'll chime in about keeping busy if you want to stay out for extended tours. I usually stay out 3-4 weeks and never have a problem keeping busy, but it takes some coordination with dispatch since we are primarily an out & back model carrier. These past two weeks I've been boogying and already have 7,000 miles on the clock with another full day of driving tomorrow before I get to Sioux City. You can work it to recap your hours but most of the time you can expect to reset somewhere on the road since we are dispatched to basically to load and haul ###! At first you'll probably do the out and back routine until you get the knack of our lanes and which loads will put you in an area to grab something with some legs on it. Man I had it all today guys! Met Slava in Carlizard and swapped and it was goregous when I left and as soon as I hit the first set of tunnels on 76 the wind started blowing like hell and caught some 55 mph gusts on the hilltops east of Breezewood. Had thunder snow by Pittsburgh and then sat on the Ohio Turnpike for an hour while they tried to pull one of our Chicago Russian comrades off to the shoulder of the road after laying it over in a snow squall and blocking all three lanes. Then it was wind & snow all the way to Elkhart. I'm one tired pup so I can't wait to pass out her in about 30 seconds! Have a good weekend & safe travels to the poor schlubbs working the weekend.
