I have never had any problems with Memphis. They seem to have plenty of freight. That was mostly KY24 from the O/O standpoint. If you followed his posts here he has had problems with many Tank carriers. SPCR is not the Walmart private fleet but if you can get hired right out of school it is a good way to jump start a driving career for an individual with the right personality. Billy Big Rigger need not apply. You will drive a 65 mph truck with elogs.

Thanks, wsyrob. I believe you are right... I could have you confused with KY24. It has been a while since I last visited and could have confused myself. Anyway, I do appreciate the info.

I talked with the Memphis terminal again and they said they would consider me once I completed a school.

I know you mentioned it in your training thread wysrob, but when training with Superior do you train locally and when you are away from home during training do they put you in a motel room or do some of the trucks have double bunks? The thread is quite long and I didn't feel like reading it all again.

None of the trucks have double bunks. If you stay out overnight you will sleep in a hotel.

I would be prepared to pay for some hotel expense up front. Have a credit card with $500-$1000 available to you. You will be reimbursed within a couple of weeks of turning in receipts. Terminals generally have accounts at hotels nearby that you wouldn't need a credit card for. I only had one trip with a trainer that wasn't local. I spent 2 weeks in Kingsport at the company hotel running local with 2 different guys. Every terminal is different though. I talked to a guy who trained out of Springfield and he was mostly OTR.

Didn't do a whole lot this week. I got to Markham around 1600 Monday. They gave me a load out of Stepan heading to Cambridge Oh. It loaded at 2100 Tuesday and delivered at 0800 Wednesday. Only way to do it is to drive all night and be out of hours after delivery.

I had just enough time on my 14 to get to the Pilot in Cambridge. Boy is that place a cluster-F. Its real tight at the fuel island. All of the big yellow poles protecting the pumps were bent. I saw why when a USA truck got hung up on one.

They sent me down to Charleston WV where I swapped my dirty tank for a clean one that leaks. Took the leaky one home to High Point where the tank repair facility is. Got home about 5:00 AM Thursday morning for a nice 4 day weekend.

Have a glue load heading to Ga in the morning. Live load and unload plus 350 miles or so. Should be a busy day.

    Thanks for the info wysrob!

What would you do in a situation where u are due to deliver and you run out of time on your 14 hr clock while unloading and the consignee won't allow you to stay on property? Sounds like a catch 22 to me. Either you leave and head to nearest truck stop and violate HOS and company policy or you park on property and piss somebody off.

I try to plan my trip to not be in that situation. Most of the people we deal with will understand. I will tell the person unloading me that I am out of hours and ask where I can park for 8-10 hours. They will usually be able to tell you because it's happened before. Gate guards can as well. If they push the issue a HOS violation isn't the end of the world and I would simply go to the closest safe haven. We can move the truck a couple of miles without it jumping to the driving line.

The website says you have to have 18 months experience, but people are talking about getting hired out of school. Which one is it?

Terminal discretion. Contact the terminal manager closest to you and ask him.

    hvxjim Thanks this.

WYSROB, how demanding would you say the learning curve for Superior is? I have yet to even go to school, but I drive and haul big equipment around all the time on big goosenecks, plus my dad has been O/O for about 40 years, so I am pretty familiar with trucks and driving/backing. I am really more concerned with how they help the new drivers along and how hard they push them to be be as competent as older hands. Its funny how I worry more about the small stuff, but I just don't want to get in to something over my head and be stressed out to the max.

OTH, I don't think I can put up with the circus acts some of these starter companies put new drivers through.

I really want tanker for the benefits and future potential the field offers, I just don't want to jump in over my head! Thanks for all you post on here, as it really allows someone like myself to analyze what things are really like out there!
