Have you ever heard 163 Amarillo otherwise known as Harddrive @ fine tune cb shop in amarillo on channel 19? all of his radios, as well as his customers radios have "limiters" in them, yet all of them produce a waveform identical to my avatar. If you know what a Tektronix sc504 is, and how to use it, and what a perfect waveform looks like, then you will understand. If you don't use a scope to monitor your station (which I highly doubt) then you are unable to set your mic gain to precisely the right spot to keep the waveform from flattopping. The "limiter" makes your station idiotproof for those of us who actually use our radios driving down the road who don't have the money to buy or the knowledge to use or the time to waste using a scope as we are driving.

Did He ever get a new dog? He was so sad over that. Why did He move to Texas. Mark calls me every once in a while, He talked for a few hours the day His dog died. I think He was so upset He did not want to sit there alone, I don't blame Him I went through that the day I lost my wolf at 11 that I raised from a 4 week old puppy. He keeps giving me a Facebook link but I will not go to those sites. Hate all that stuff just as I hated MSM back in the late 90's. No desire to be on those sites. Signed up only to watch the Beck in Israel thing, and never went back to Facebook since.

I guess it should be called an OVERmodulation limiter.

Yes it is, if you get Ray. There was some confusion awhile back if Ray was still doing the work in that shop. Just stay out of the other shop there in W. Memphis!!

yes ray is in the shop by the petro. he is there mostly mon-fri 7-5, andy is the only other tech working there and he is only there usually in the evenings and on sat as he has a full-time job. I have only had ray or andy touch any of my radios in the last 10+ years and have had no issues from either of them. top shelf technicians in my opinion, not dummys with a golden screwdriver. they did get a bad rap when the previous owner was there and he was rotating 3-4 techs on a weekly basis, ray has had the shop solely for the last 2 years or so and is finally getting his reputation with that location back. sorry for the long post but wanted to clear the air as I have 1st hand knowledge of the shops day to day operations over the last several years.

I wasn't going to mention any names, but here is my experience with the "other" CB shop and their work. I've either seen this or heard it myself so this isn't gossip or heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend stuff.

The shop is a hack shop IMO! Why do I say this? I have set and watched my tech straighten out several radios "tweeked and peeked" in that "other" shop. They do the typical truck stop tweaknician type work. I haven't asked lately, but they used to would do any wack pack mod you asked them to, including putting 12 volts to the finals. Also, I was in there the other day to buy an item and we got to talking about antennas and SWRs. He said an analyzer is more accurate than an inline SWR meter. Why would he tell truck drivers this? It isn't true, but you can see where statements like that could benefit him. I call that a lack of character. I like to deal with honest people. Most all of the freight haulers in and around Memphis use Ray, and have for years. He used to be at Everybody's Electronics and has been around a long time. His radios speak for themselves, so to speak.....

I think I posted about him before. That's not my normal running lanes. But I had a load going down I-95 and I stopped in there. I let him peak and tune my Cobra 25 back up radio. He did a radio check in front of me and got many good report feedbacks. He also made a comment with a wow! It's swinging 30 watts. I'm not into big radio's. I just wanted that one peaked and tuned to perform a little better. I forget now, but I remember his price was more than fair.

Well I get down the road and got some time after delivery and I install it along with some new braided cables I bought. I couldn't get any replies and wasn't sure it was just truckers ignoring me. Finally the next day a guy tells me it was all garbled. No wonder nobody answered. It was a Night Watch and the needle and lights were acting funny too. I figured he done something wrong.

I call Spirit Man from 1000 miles away and he tells me to bring it back. I told him I don't get that way that often. He said to mail it to him which I did. He called me and told me he couldn't find anything wrong with it. He even express mailed it right back to me. I was extremely pleased with the way he handled the situation. He was nice about the whole deal. He didn't charge me extra and even paid the return shipping.

Turned out them new cables had a dead short in them after I put the ohmeter to them. :biggrin_25524: lol. I put the old cables back on and it performed like a champ.

But I would go to him again if the situation arose. He does do good honest work and stands behind it.
