I currently drop my mt trailer at the Legget & Platt yard less than a mile from my house and take the truck home.....but if their lot is full I take the trailer out to a small truckstop about 3 miles away.....would this be acceptable?

I already have a 1500w inverter and my hazmat.....but no passport.....is it a hassle going in and out of Canada?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt they'd let you leave the trailer seperate from the tractor. Probably afraid it would get stolen. You'll have to call the company on that. Of course, they'd probably let you drop the trailer at the Con-way Terminal for home time. Can't be more secure than that and then you'd go on the board when you come back to the terminal. Might even get a preloaded trailer that way that is ready to roll versus having to get loaded at a shipper.

It is not a major hassle going in and out of Canada but there is a little to it. They do pay $25 for each loaded border crossing. So if you went in loaded and came out loaded you'd earn $50 worth of border crossing pay. Only once did I go in loaded and come out empty and I did only get the $25 for the loaded crossing. I had just a handful of Canadian trips in my 10.5 months with Con-way until my last time out when I was sent in 3 times in 15 days.

    It is what they require.
They will reimburse the expense for both Hazmat and Passport If/when you acquire them after being hired on.

This "is not" a derogatory remark towards Con-way, but being from Florida and a newbie, my wife and I were not comfortable with 3 Canadian trips in the winter. So I resigned.

There is a Terminal in Taylor, Michigan. (Detroit area). Alot of Freight goes in and out of Ontario. But I also was sent to Quebec twice (No Fun-ALL the signage is in French). I also delivered into New Brunswick. Had a preplan once for British Columbia that got unassigned. Con-way actually has atleast a few Regular drivers out of the Taylor terminal that do nothing but/ or almost nothing but shuttle back and forth between Taylor to Canada. The rule on dispatches that are required to stop off at the Taylor terminal is that the driver bringing it there Must take it on to Canada. So I'm guessing that loads that are shuttled must be loads that had way too much time on them or the drivers that brought the loads to the terminal were exempt from Forced Canada. Only drivers eligable for the exemption are drivers that worked for CFI before Con-way acquired them.

Thanks for that info. Been in Canada, around Ontario, quite a few time w/my previous job. Even been in Quebec when I drove 15 yrs ago. I didnt mind it as I had French in high school and still remember some of it.

Any dealings w/the Conway yard in Cookeville, TN? (i think it may be a ltl, not sure...). Been reading up on Conway as an option after schooling, so thanks for the thread!

Thank you....I don't speak French and really have no desire to go to Canada, so I'll be marking Con-Way off my list.

Can't remember going to Cookeville. Con-way Truckload drivers do run alot of Terminal-to-Terminal loads for Con-way Freight thoughout the USA. My last run for Con-way was a Terminal-to-Terminal run from Nashville, TN to Jax, FL.

    flatt Thanks this.
