withe all the cut throats out there you try to keep the work quiet. the only thing I will ever admit to hauling is salt because well my boss owns the salt yard we haul out of so I dont think I have much to worry about

Hi. First post here, but have been lurking for a while. I have a couple of questions for you guys.
For the last six years I've been pulling an rgn for John Deere hauling equipment. It was about half local and half otr. I used to go back to Iowa to pick up equipment from the different factories they have there. The dealer was bought out by a big company, changed their policies and quit doing the otr stuff all together. Everything started to fall apart. I got put on hourly just doing local stuff and was barely doing 40 a week. They didn't run their trucks to make money anymore. It was more of just a convenience to the customers there, and I am kind of getting tired of hauling 20 ft. wide beetdiggers for the money they thought I deserved.
Anyways, I have a truck and hopper at home with my authority and plates and insurance. I was wondering if there is anything out there right now. I was looking at eclipse and chicoda, but after reading rob's thread, I was kind of second guessing. The hopper is paid for, and my truck is about 3 payments from being paid for. We have just been running it on the farm, but I decided to put apportioned plates on it just in case. I'm in eastern Colorado.
I guess my questions are what you thought about eclipse or chicoda, rates seem low from what i've heard, I'd be willing to go flat, step, or pot, if someone has a trailer i could lease as well. I just don't know where to begin. Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for the replys.

I haven't heard anything good about eclipse but don't know about chicoda. I'm not sure I would recommend hoppers right now. I really don't know what trailer is paying the best.

Just2211, if you want a chance at making any money with your hopper, find your own work. Stay away from those companies. All they do is grab you loads off a load board, or, buy them off other brokers, and charge you 10%. You can join the same load boards for $50/month and at least pick your own loads.

Thanks wheathauler, and thankyou spax. I guess I don't know how to thank individual posts yet haha. That's the vibe I was kind of getting from those companies.

Do not go to chicoda. A friend had 2 trucks there. They didnt do very good. Had to wait to get paid. Try Reliant. I dont know what their rates are like right now but with fertilizer moving right now you should be able to stay busy.

Might try bruceoakley.com. They run some hoppers mostly end dumps I think.
