I have been looking for an new company to work for, currently I work for swift trans. but as everyone know's there reputation is one of the worst out there. From the looks of what I have read on these forums, the smaller the better. I dont have more then 6 weeks of real driving experience through swift. but I would like to get into an good carrier out of MI, something small, but not fly-by-night small, good reputation amongst drivers, and is willing to hire on new drivers. I dont even care where they send me for loads, but I would like some decent home time at least 2 day's every other week.
anyone know of an good company like this, lemme know, pm me, or post about it. Help give swift yet another turn over...
Out Of MI???

They're not based in Michigan, but try TMC. I live in Monroe (Just south of detroit) and when i drove for them i was home 2-3 Nights/weekly (They guarantee you home every weekend) unless you want to stay out more than a week, then they will accomodate that also.
If you can handle flatbedding (Its hard work) then i'd say give them a try, they have some of the best training in the industry for new drivers, and some real purdy petes.
Dont worry, i no longer drive for em so im not blowin smoke for a bonus. -

you think it would be best to stick it out with swift? I was thinking about it, and have thought about it for the last 6 weeks, but there is so much disrespect from other drivers on the road just because im in a big white truck that say's swift on the side. And I have seen how hard it is to get home time when it is due, and I have seen the disrespect swifts own terminal managersgive there drivers when they need a load getting home, or close enough to home so they can just deadhead, or bobtail. swift does not like to allow there drivers to drive more then 50 mile's if they aint making no money with you doing it. I think I may check out tmc there, although I am not familiar with flatbed, that was the original reason why I went to swift, and they told me I lived to far north for flatbed driving. atm the only other reason why I am considering staying with swift is a good friend of mine is trying to get an DM job from them, and I plan on having her be my dm if she does get the job.
thanks for this so far, keep them coming, I like to see whats out there that people think is really good.
TMC looks really awsome, nice trucks, nice pay programs, benifits package is decent. only one problemrequired age is 23yr's old, I just turned 22 about 2 weeks ago. maybe ill stick out the swift yr then go to tmc. unless theres any other better company's that dont have the 23yr req.

And personally, I believe that the whole industry would be better if all the quitters were gone. I MIGHT actually get a raise. Until you have some REAL experience under your belt, you really only have two choices: Man-Up or go flip burgers at Wendy's. -
Well, make sure that TMC Follows through on you.
Otherwise, if you stick it out at swift for a year, then start calling companies on things like Dedicated, Regional, or Local stuff. Lot of companies look for 6 mos-1 year of experience for stuff like that, and also makes the process of hire smoother by not having to call 2-4 employers. If they have to make a Judgment Call on your experience of "Job Jumping" 9 times out of 10 it's against you.
Good Luck! -
No Fear, I would agree with Roadkill, get at least 1 year's experience under your belt before you think about leaving. As for the disrespect, just ignore it; I learned driving for Covenant, so I caught my fair share of crap for it.
As for where you live, you may want to call MPH up; they are based out of Fremont, and are supposed to get their drivers home for weekends (if you so desire). You may want to talk to some of the outfits out of Grand Rapids as well, since you're in Muskegon, but for most of those cos., you will need at least 1 year's worth of experience. -
Stick out your year before you go looking, chances are if you change now you'll be right back to school and doing the trainer thing again before you get your truck again.
Just because they are out of MI doesnt mean they will get you home. Know drivers that drive for many of the Co's here in GR and they dont get much home time. -
Sure Crash, but there are some that can get their drivers home regularly, like Van's, or Columbian Logistics (at least the daycab guys do).
