Ok.here goes my experience from day 1 of CRST. Talked to a recruiter,Sarah Z. Fed me the song and dance, took me about 50 calls and 10 messages to contact her again to ask questions.Arrived at CRST on a sunday, drove myself, walked in the front door to see about a 100 people and smells like piss, dirty and very unorganized.Went up to counter, they didnt even have my name on the list to be there, and, were going to put me in a room with 3 cots and a light,i said no thanks i will pay for a hotel.I dont sleep with filth. The rooms on site, are 3 beds per room and thats it.Windows dont even open, bathrooms are down the hall with showers that arnt clean very often.Next day,Monday at 6am went to training center where they make you sign a form to repay them for housing, drug test and physical and transportation,if you didnt drive yourself. Then they bring in Kirkwood, in turn you sign a contract to repay kirkwood 2000.00 if you dont make it or quit. Then after that stood in line for 6hours with NO LUNCH to take a physical and drug test.Got in line at 845am and wasnt done till 230pm then had to hurry to get to kirkwood because class started at 3pm.Got to kirkwood and took notes and other things till 11pm.Went to hotel, slepted went back to kirkwood for 6am.2weeks went by got my CDL license. This whole time i never heard a word from my recruiter or crst.Paid for my own hotel, food etc.Cant say nothing bad about kirkwood school except for the fat marchmellow guy that sits on computer all day ######## at people for standing in hallway.During my 2 weeks of training i heard not one good thing about crst from all the trainers and or other people there. After i got my cdl friday i walked into crst and fount my recruiter.Told her i changed my mind i dont want to sign a contract and work for them, her responce was i dont give to ##### less i dont work on commission and i dont have time for you, talk to someone else. This wasnt a surprized since in only spoke to her like 3x before i drove up here.I was glad of her responce because i knew at that moment i was making the right decision.I paid kirkwood 2000.00 got my certificate for completion of school and moved on.
CRST doesn't give a crap about their people.Every week they bring in over 100 people for schooling and maybe 10 stay because they dont have any other options.I think they might get government funding for students.Classes are overloaded so you will be lucky to get 6hr of drive time in 2 weeks, its not kirkwood fault, they do the best they can with the amount of people crst brings to them weekly. If you do stay on with crst after training then you go out for 28days with a trainer of some sort, get paid 50.00 a day as long as you are driving, and then after training .22 cents a mile and maybe 3000 miles a week.Do the math, then you have to repay them weekly 40.00 a week for all the money they spent on you for drug test/physical/housing and transportation.By the way,if you never drove a truck before, after kirkwood school because the classes are so overfull, you will barely know how to drive a tractor.Kirkwood has some excellent trainers btw,was the only possitive thing of this 2week experience.
Bottom line,do not sign a contract with crst after you get your cdl from kirkwood.there is alot more and better options for you, but, you will need 2000.00 to get your 120hr certificate from them to appy to other companys as a student.

Well I hope things work out for you.
At least you had the sense and the cash to support yourself through the school.
nice report and pretty easy to read.Again good luck in your new career -
you were very smart in paying the school off and not signing that contract.
BigPapiOrtiz, TequilaSunrise and snowlauncher Thank this. -

Crst is by far the worst company in the industry. Dont waste your time they turnover is very high. You be taking home $300-$400 a week. That dont care about their drivers. There's other companies out there.
The Patriot Thanks this. -
im surprised you paid for a hotel room the entire time you were doing your classes...there wasnt a school closer to your house?
sounds like thats where they should be sending people rather than paying ppl for TWO years of unemployment. a real shocker it would be, this is the real world and nothings free.
as bad as this sounds, there IS alot worse. worse conditions AND not being paid at all or when the company "feels" like it. -
Just talked to a recruiter from CRST this past week. I got my CDL a week ago, and am waiting for my hard copy to come in the mail, at which point I'm supposed to call them back and get my bus ticket ordered and my orientation setup. I was told I would drive for 28 days with a mentor, during which time I'd get paid 22 cpm, and since I have a partner to team drive with, after the 28 days, we'd each get 26 cpm. Also, we are supposed to get a $200 sign on bonus. I'm thinking I should request that information in writing before I actually go, or should I just keep looking at other companies?

We've seen drivers on here stating they split it. -
why do you need a mentor for 28 days?
Who is your partner to be(a current crst driver? or current crst student?)
