    Hello,

I thought I would start a thread on the best advice given to you by mentors, experienced drivers, mechanics, etc...

One of my ushers at church is a 30yr police veteran of NJ and even sat on the board there. He gave me some good advice that I wish I would have known when started driving. Driving is dealing with the public which can be a royal pain. Drive six cars ahead of you and be prepared for what those six could do.

What good advice have you been given??

"watch your trailer watch your trailer watch your trailer" lol........

even when i didn't need to driving straight down the road he was like a broken record in my ear

i'll hear those words every mile i drive for the rest of my driving career

    outside of that:

lane choice is everything navigating metro areas

always check for places to park the last 5 miles or so into a shipper/receiver because they may not let you park on the property once you're done and you don't want to eat up your clock finding somewhere to park once you get out of there

always drive 6 to 8 cars ahead of you

don't change lanes unless absolutely necessary and check double check and then check again your mirrors just because there wasn't something there when you checked when you look again that car you didn't see tucked in behind your trailer will be squirting up the right side

own your lane....your responsibility is not to let merging traffic in, it's their responsibility to merge safely

don't hold up the faster trucks in the center lane and always know what and who is behind you before you jump out there and try to pass someone slower when you're only doing 63

always check the spot in the truckstop you want to park in to be sure you can get out of it when you're ready to leave lol that spot that's easy to get into and is stilll empty may be empty for a reason

    and watch your trailer

The larger the sign, the larger the arrow and the more lights means the sharper the curve.

My Great Uncle who drove since he got home from WWII told me:
"You learn something everyday. The day you know everything and are convinced you've seen it all, quit. You're a hazard to everyone else that is still learning."
