I haven't talked with a recruiter yet. Soon to go to a private school in the Twin Cities area for CDL. Thinking ahead to a company. I first looked at Schneider, then Prime, then Stevens...

Schneider seems to hurry the trainer portion and get you in a truck real fast. Seems like a rookie may suffer in the long run for lack of good training.
Prime seems to cost a lot given they want to pay $600 a wk. or .12 a mile for first several months while your with a trainer.
Stevens has a very bad rep. concerning costs for training and the way they treat newbies. Appears to be a rookie mill that keeps trucks filled with people who won't stay.

So now I come to Swift. Before I talk to company flaks I'd like to get it straight from the folks who matter---YOU!

I appreciate and value your opinions! Thanks in advance.

Driving for Swift with a clean record is worse than driving for a company unheard of with s bag record just because of the stereotyped people in todays world. in my opinion

In my opinion you are the only one who will be able to answer that question. Just do your homework and pick the company that best suites your needs.

You be asking the wrong questions. Figure out what your expections of a company are. Only then will you be able to narrow your search.

Only you can answer that question. What are you looking for? Do you want to run OTR, regional, dedicated, local? Do you want to pull a van, tanker. flat bed, reefer? That's what you need to be thinking about. Most companies that hire new drivers pay and train about the same. You just got to figure out what is good for you and remember what ever it is it might not be the same for another driver.

So what are you looking for? Rainbows? Garbage cans? I did my training at a Swift School over 6 years ago and have driven for them ever since. At the time I looked at other companies and what they had to offer and concluded that Swift filled my needs more than the others. All the companies that have schools are pretty much the same, get the CDL, get them trained, get them in a truck. All the companies have their bad points and their good points, it is up to you to determine which set of rules you can live with. Swift will front you the education and training and then deduct from your check an amount to pay off the loan in a certain amount of time where you owe them nothing. Stay longer and they will refund that total amount back to you over another certain amount of time. In my case it was 10 months and Swift was paid off by payroll deduction, another 10 months and they had refunded back to me the entire cost of my training. It's up to you to check out the possibilities with each company. Check their CSA scores, check out their equipment, talk to their current and past drivers to get answers to your specific questions. Do I regret my choices from 6 years ago? Not at all! But I would rather be sitting on a warm tropical beach watching the girls parade by in skimpy bathing suits while I have an ice cold adult beverage in hand!:biggrin_25526:

    What are you looking for?

I didn't realize my request above was so vague. I'm looking for drivers that have experience with Swift company.

I'm a Swift rookie only been on my own for 4 months now but I can say if your willing to drive 11hrs a day Swift has the loads and miles that's for sure ya sometimes you get in a area with no loads but not to often.

I average 2800 to 3200 a week and make $800 to $1100 a week unless I go home or then I average $250 to $500 but you have to remember your not driving 4 days of that week.

I had a Awsome traininer and trained me very good and is now a great friend and I call if I got a question or problem.

Ya Swift has a bad rep but you have to remember Swift is a training company.

Don't listen to these losers saying Swift is a bad company they are no different than the others out there, my friend works for Werner and he is already ready to leave and only been there 4 months. Theses guys saying stuff about Swift are just jealous we make more money than them.

I was trained 4 weeks and ya wasn't ready when I was given a truck but I made it this far and feel confident now I still struggle at times with my backing but it is improving slowly by the day. I used to avoid truck stops So I did t have to back near trucks but now I am more willing to park in them now unless there tight ones with no more to back.

My only gripe is I get stuck in the East a lot don't see the Midwest or West to much.

I am happy with Swift and will suggest Swift to any new drivers out there.

Just remember no matter where you go you will be starting at the bottom and your gonna have to work your way up. Low pay and hard work your first two years.

A lot of students give up way before this because they are not told the truth and they find out the hard way.

    grusco and ShamrockSalono Thank this.
