    #### windy here in Tejas today!!! Especially with an empty trailer. All over the road last night and today. Glad my trainer is driving this morning. Headed back to Laredo tonight. Got more practice in yesterday backing up.

Still loving the fact that I get to see this great country. It's been 30+ years since I've ridden across most of it. I love the wide open places of the west. (Have I said that before here???)

    Everybody be safe out there.

Just watch the temperature on your ECM gage. If its warm, it'll usually go down to around 28 before you start seeing ice. Watch the tires of vehicles that pass you and end up in YOUR lane. If you see spray coming off its still water... when it stops - its ice. Look in the rear view mirror... if the road behind you looks like a mirror - ice. And your behind will tell you when one of the tires starts slipping.

Just drive conservatively if you suspect ice until you get the hang of it. Slow down, put on your four ways, and enjoy all of the suggestive comments you elicit on the CB!

Done all that... Guy in front of me didnt. Rolled into the ditch. Scared the crap out of me when I felt my truck sliding around, with 42000 on the trailer.

Lots of hours and miles lately.

I am up over 70 hours now and have about 8 hours to drive today. We are planning on being back at springmo next Friday to test out next weekend. I can't wait.

    WOW, where have I been???

Got a load out of MO the other day of beef, had a 36 hour window!!! WTF man???
Luckily(or maybe not...) we got loaded Sat afternoon, which was on the early side of the window. 90 is in Western Mass, delivery date is Wednesday.... So here we are 250 miles from the 90 at Pittston and two days to kill unless we can drop load and get another one. Timing was NOT right on this load, but I guess they had to accommodate for the 36 hour window. UGH

Pittston is a nice place, got a shower and doing laundry now. Gotta love the Wifi here.

I'm at 90 hours now, been getting plenty of practice. No real problems, I should be able to test out Friday or Saturday. I'm hoping for the TRIFECTA man....

Good luck and be safe out there.

Food processing is not as cut and dried as say... making widgits. The FDA is in the middle of it making sure you and your family aren't going to die of food poisoning. What happens if they detect contamination? How about not enough cows showing up for the party? Thus the window. Frequently sales wants you there ASAP because they need empty trailers (no trailer no load.)

You got there at the beginning of the window, which gives you more time than you need to move the load. Figure what kind of time the trip would require if you arrived at DDT - sometimes that can be very tight. OTOH, there are times you may be able to deliver early - and catching up on your sleep is a good plan too.

    Good luck on that.

Meat loads aren't cut and dried, like IP said. There are lots of steps in the process, and lots of things that can go wrong along the way. Meat loads almost ALWAYS have a long appointment window, and delivery appointments are determined by the DDT. There are times, however, where you will be sitting past DDT. Whether you get loaded early, at DDT or late, let your FM know, and a lot of times sales can get the delivery adjusted.

Communication is key in any relationship, including between you, sales, your FM, shipper and receiver.
