Truth be known, there probably isn't a O/O here that makes more then a basic company driver, some less by the time everything is said and done with.
Yes there are some that make well, but they are the minority.
The way I look at things, the harder you run, then more money you make, but your fuel cost is higher, maint is higher, equipment replacement is more frequent, lets not forget the IRS.... and for what reason ?
Someday you guys will realize what is more important.

From what I'm seeing, and correct me if I'm wrong, Mercer's high paying freight is in the Midwest. Is it practical to gross the 200k with them, while still getting weekly runs thru the Atlanta area or would this severly sacrifice earning potential? -

And not according to financials supplied by Landstar to Yahoo finance section on the web. Average LS BCO gross was around $160,000 for 2010. 2011 final numbers haven't been posted yet. As averages go, there are usually more below the average than there are those above it. But those above it are usually way above it. -

If you really want to do well for yourself, get your own authority and learn how to make the equipment you have pay. I pull a step deck and have been independent for about 15 years. I have been with Landstar for 1 month and I have already cleared $12,000 AFTER costs.... so it is doable over here. You just have to play the spot market and go where the money takes you. Right now, it took me to Billings, MT and I have another load lined up going to MS. It is not the greatest paying load, but it is only 4,500 lbs and the load coming up will more than make my trip average over $3.55 per hub mile
