Oh I found out while traveling through crashville the other night that the collison warning system will hit the brakes rather stoutly....(I had a car that crossed 3 lanes of traffic in front of me to get to an on ramp, I had no chance of hitting it because it was crossing lanes and i was in the center but the radar doesn't see the car changing lanes it just sees a vehicle moving exceptionally slower than me cause the car was slowing rapidly to make the ramp and my truck hit the brakes hard!! not enough to register a hard brake but enough to lock my seatbelt and toss my atlas on the passager seat to the floor...

it would have sucked if it had been icy out cause it would have jack knifed me for sure.....:biggrin_2551:

I don't think that junk should be on class 8 trucks, or big trucks in general. Too risky unless there's a way of turning it off.

    WHAT is this?

are you saying that Roehl has installed auto-braking hooked to a radar receiver?

    please say no.

ohhh yeah...I heard a story (yes in the lounge at ellenwood while i was watching the tv so grain of salt here guys) that a driver had the thing set off by a cone on an icy curve and it caused him to almost wreck...I don't really believe it as far as detecting cones...but maybe his sensitivity is a skosh on the high side..if it is true...

i can understand an auto-brake system on a rail vehicle like a train or a robotic warehouse pallet jack, but i don't see how software can take into account traction, curves ahead of the truck, road camber, or anything else that might cause a loss of control if the brakes are applied automatically on a moving highway vehicle.

what years and makes are these things appearing on?

It doesn't brake you unless you have cruise on so could be a trucker tale?

Vorad ONLY applies the JAKE...and ONLY when the Cruise is on. You can also overide that by putting your foot on the fuel pedal. OR you can just reach under the front bumper and unplug the stupid radar (keep in mind that roehl may monitor it, in my exp my former employer didnt care about the vorad it just happend to be on the trucks when they got them)
