Well got the message this week that the US dedicated will end on the 16th. Well it was fun while it lasted.
Been running a ton of miles ran 3000 last week heck I even got hung out last week. Made it home Friday with 20 min. to spare up my clock sweet.
Hope everybody has a great week and drive safe and enjoy the ride. -
Rodney,
Do you have any idea what they make you do with the tarps at orientation ? I hear they weigh 98 pounds.
Grindem. -
98 lbs?
I think the lumber tarps are heavier than that (maybe 140 or so)...heck, the steel tarps are 60 lbs. IIRC.
Anyway, you just have to be able to get them up on the trailer...which is pretty easy...Schneider used to make the glass haulers get those tarps up on their shoulders and climb a ladder with them.
That single part of training probably sent more guys home than all the rest combined. And it has nothing to do with how big or strong you think you are...I've seen 200 pounders that couldn't even get the tarp on their shoulder, let alone up the ladder...but lil scrawny 150 pound me (then....175 now) did it with no problems...all those years in tobacco patches and hay fields helped me there I'm sure.
The tarp is just like a bale of hay...and technique is more important than strength. -
What is IIRC ?

Road Boss Thanks this.

I know I could pick up a 60 pound tarp from the ground and put it up on a trailer if thats what Maverick wants me to do.
As far as the 100 pound tarp, I would have to get pointers on getting a hold of the width of it and maybe use a knee to rest it on, as I raise it up. -
Yeah...those steel tarps ain't bad...I've been known to get a lil carried away and throw them plumb over the trailer, LOL.
Last I checked...Maverick doesn't really care how you do it, as long as you get it up there (not using your back)...As I said, I throw them exactly the same as I do a square bale of hay...pick it up, get my knee under it, lift it to my chest using my arms and the knee...then push (throw)...it works for me, as long as I don't need to go much over my head.
If its over my head...get it on my shoulder and use a ladder (there is a trick to getting it on your shoulder...its not as easy as it sometimes looks)...or, holler for the guy on the fork lift. -
On very useful tip concerning lifting tarps...
The tighter they are rolled (folded?)...the easier they are to handle.sewerman Thanks this. -
Thank you Ridgerunner665
