Wrong trailer

    Delivering food and food-grade products is a little different than shlepping build-it-yourself furniture. There's a chain-of-custody established by the seal record. Now many recievers could give a dang, but many are serious about it. Show up with the wrong seal on a trailer, and you just bought yourself a rejected load - if its perishable, you paid for it too.

    Goes back to inspecting the bills, making sure the destination, seal, trailer number are all correct - and using the live load call to make sure all the bases are covered. The OP's trainer is an idiot... he just lucked out, because other's whose errors in grabbing the wrong trailer or going to an incorrect destination have cost them their jobs here.

    good idea with the q-c---always cover your ###----i get a few loads where the seal is checked at the shack--then i cut it oof and have to hand it to the reciever--what i hate are the sealed drop trailers---dont want to leave my bars or straps in it--but still want to secure load before it is sealed--kinda a no win situation

    weird crap can happen--saw one guy take a load of toilet paper instead of load of flour--didnt seem to notice the weight difference??--was on right trailer # but the dock had marked wrong number-----i checked my losd once--ok 2 drops candy and some metal crap--cleared customs --but unfortunately--there were 2 candy loads in trailer but only one submitted to customs---10.000 fine--i dont count the #### boxes--office messed up --guess i did as well a bit--thank god i didnt have to pay it

    We just let our FMs know about the load bars - get compensated for it on the next settlement, or credit to get a couple from the terminal if nearby. Happens fairly regularily around here.

    that wasnt nessicary. No one shlepps anything a W/S they haul/then unload (as in real work). And it is NOT wally world furniture, try $5000 couches. Broyhill, Thomasville, La-Z-Boy, etc far from cheapo, build it yourself stuff. 900lbs kitchen tables arent cheap, ugly yes, cheap no.

    Going back to the OP. It's the drivers fault... Plain and simple. He did not match the trailer number with number on the bills. With it being a Hazmat load I would have double checked the bills.

    This wasn't a simple case of wrong product on the correct trailer... Its a case of shipper handing the bills and pointing to the wrong trailer.

    BTW try cutting off and swapping seals on a load of fresh meat without either customer approval or having an enforcement inspection replacement seal with the accompanying paperwork from the inspecting officer (be it DOT, State Trooper, or Ag inspector) and you bought yourself the entire load.

    A lot of the larger food companies have bio terrorism policies for food contamination, with just as strict seal policies. Not just the meat guys. In the reefer world, seals are not just for claims on incorrect Shipper load and piece count irregularities.

    As for the OPs trainer, he shouldn't be a trainer anymore at least... Fired in my opinion, given everything that a Prime driver is required to do verbally over the phone with dispatch BEFORE he depart the shipper. A live load call is to prevent this from happening. The entire procedure is predicated on the ability of the driver to read the actual bills.

    Without looking at the regs, I believe it is the drivers responsibility to inspect the condition, load placement, and blocking and bracing on any hazmat load.

    Any of the haz-mat loads I pulled, safety was called for briefing to verify trailer number, pick up location, delivery location, block, bracing, condition, of the load. We were then given a run down of hauling haz-mat rules. Not sure how all companies handle this but it would have stopped them before heading out with the wrong trailer. This would be inclusive of a drop yard.

    Sure it was necessary. You set the tone with your snide and belittling comments at the other people posting on this thread.

    W/S is just lucky that humans cant catch tetnus from their furniture being hauled in rusting junk trailers or they'd be out of business.

    Its not necessary to point out how to spell necessary... so I wont.

    Yup... we are required to CALL IN on all loads, and have a special management unit set up to verify all of this stuff with the driver, just because of crap like this. As soon as you identify your load as hazmat, we go into a much more detailed review of the bills, HM class, weights, packaging. Obviously this idiot circumvented the process somewhere. I was being generous, but U2 is correct. This guy should be canned.
