The Xantrex inverter/charger that I have in my truck is just that.... an inverter when on batteries, and a pass thru AC electric while simultaneously charging the batteries or keeping them charged up when hooked up to shore power. True, they are not the cheapie units you find in the truck stops. But this one has virtually no RF to interfere with CB and is one solid unit. It was designed for boating/marine use and can even be mounted right on the frame rail of the truck and handle all the road spray, salt, and whatever. I have it mounted right along side my batteries in the battery box. Too bad it was discontinued due to poor sales. I think the price scared most people away. I picked up another one off of Ebay a while back, new in the box, to have a spare one if this one bites the dust. They just aren't available anymore. I lucked out that a boating marine place in Florida happened to get their hands on a few of them several months ago, new in the box, so I scarfed up another one.

I know it was not a solicitation just an offer to share toys and if you were in Ohio I would be all over it, the information passed along on here is priceless

cowpie, i have one of the dynasys units i got it first part of jan. it cost 8700 dollars installed which included a shore power unit. you get a 2000 dollar grant off that price, making it 6700 hundred dollars. it has a 6000 watt generator, 65 amp alternator to charge batteries, it has seperate heat and a/c unit, it is wired to your block heater , has 110 volt outlets installed in bunk, shorepower installed , they plumb it into the tank for fuel. it has a touchpad screen, you set the temp you want the truck and it turns on heat or air to maintain se temperature so the unit doesnt run constantly unless you want it too, it comes on automatically to charge batteries when they reach a level you set. you can also set coolant temp cutoff level.

after you do the 2000 dollar grant the payments are 400 a month for 2 year lease with a 800 dollar buyout , payments are around 300 for 3 year lease, but just costs more interest.

i am saving conservatively 1200 a month so far take away payment and i am 800 to the good just in fuel and by now being able to fully operate a fridge and freezer, microwave, coffepot, lunchbox oven, 19 inch tv, dvd player , sony playbox( gets netflix, vudu, hulu, etc etc) i now save about 125 a week on eats and entertainment.

by eating healthier i have now lost 30 pounds since dec 27, and am saving less apu cost about 1300 dollars a month,

together with slowing to a max of 65 mph and the fuel saved from idling my mpg is up 1.5 mpg on this latest run run 1800 miles with steel beams i avg. 6.8 mpg computed from actual gallons put in divided by miles driven, not a dash readout.

the best of the dynasys , is guranteed approval with being an ooida member and it will not cost one cent out of pocket til the first payment is due 30 days after install.

but many mercer drivers have set-ups with gensets that with heat a/c and all they have less than 1200 (some who did a window unit deal have less than 700) in the entire deal.

whichever way you go twolane is right , you will save a boatload of money.

and harlyever, the dynasys unit itself is carb compliant as is, no need for dpf on this unit

    twolane and Cowpie1 Thank this.

Well, thanks for the info, skateboardman. I will take a second look at the Dynasys. A local shop I use for a lot of my truck repair in Des Moines is a dealer of that apu. Next time in there I will take a close look at it.

Been offered a Carrier APU unit, with electronic controller and everything needed to get it hooked up for $2k.
No AC etc, as I am pretty set on the rooftop unit which will allow shore power to get it running.
This will also do the start stop thing for battery voltage and engine temperature, saving me from either having one running all the time, or having to risk low batteries.
The Carrier has a 4kw generator, 40 amp alternator and is liquid cooled to keep the engine warm.
    Thoughts?

Funny I have been offered a used Carrier unit with 6600hrs on it but new ac heat duct work and cab monitor installed for 5k....I want the rooftop unit but had a hard time today finding someone to install it....I can get a Coleman genset, trifuel adapter, heat, rooftop unit, for around 2k (not sure on install charge for roof top) But if I get the Carrier unit I dont have the xtra work of refueling etc.....argh....still looking
