I understand things a lot better now. This is like a new car dealership, where if you don't make a lot of sales, you don't stay.
There are two types of salesmen who make it in car sales. The liars who will tell a person anything to make a sale, and the decent, honest man, that may not start off fast, but soon earns the respect of the customer, and has many repeat sales.
The "quota" system can push some people who are basically OK, but badly need money and a job, into doing and saying things that may not be the most honest.

So true, so true. As long as we KNOW this is how the world works, we shouldn't complain too much if we get burned by a liar later.
It's not as much the deseperate liar telling lies as it is the naive joker who falls for the lies after making faulty assumptions, such as the ol' classic "people are fundamentally GOOD and would never screw me." Famous last words before the deal goes sour. -

As much as I agree with everyone that companies like JB are scum in regards to their treatment of employess, I am also a realist. There is only one way to change policies of a major corporation and that, stated simply, is the ding their profits. No matter how much we hate the concept, these companies don't answer to drivers, they answer to shareholders/owners and shareholders/owners only. The drivers, and unscrupulous treatment of drivers, is as simple as the age old Machiavellian concept. They are a means to an end. The end in this case is the companies bottom line. The high cost of their enormous turnover is part of these companies business models and in their eyes, and more importantly the eyes of thier investors, the model isn't broken so why fix anything? All of the majors are making huge profits and until the day they cease to do so, things WILL remain status quo.
The idea of changing things one person at a time inside the company is a bunch of fufu P.C. crap. The only way any of these scum companies like JB will change is if they start losing money. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Wiseone's goal when he started this forum to educate drivers so that they wouldn't fall prey to these predatory companies? That is the only approach that could concievably work because eventually the recruiting shark will have no drivers left to prey on.
If this post was a little too blunt for some people, well then...TOO #### BAD. Like I said, I'm a realist and I call 'em like I see 'em. -
Who knows. Who cares, really. -
Trying to change a company one driver at a time would be like trying to catch raindrops in a rainstorm to keep from getting your head wet. When each new driver becomes "educated" about trucking, ten naive newbies appear to gladly take his place, and the process starts over. It's like watching a minute-long video that keeps skipping back to the beginning after 5 seconds. -
its not just jbhunt
its corporate america and politicians, that marriage is going to ruin this country
they care nothing about people, we are only fodder for their profits and votes -
I keep telling you, over and over, it's not about changing the driver! It's about changing one person in the office! This forum is doing it's job, and doing it well! Because of this forum, I personally have turned down both JB and Swift! Until I see that change start, I will not mess with either of them!
But one dispatcher, one load planner, one person in management is all it takes. Just one step in the right direction to start satisfying drivers, and it will have a ripple effect.
It may or may not happen. That's not the point. It can happen. I've seen it happen in other companies. But if just one of these people is here, watching, reading, learning, then changes can be made.
Yes, I am an optimist. So sue me.
Tip, I am in Visalia CA. His biggest dream is to go back to OTR, with a company that will allow me to go with him. He has been driving since 10-01.
I have been looking, but so far, most companies, other than a few of the no-no companies don't really like coming into CA, and so would only get him home every month and a half to 2 months. -
UPDATE: Just got a 2nd call from Wal-Mart Home Office today. Interview is Monday Oct 15th!
I'm one of what seems like the very few in the Office that knows that Drivers are my income on both sides of commission and base. If I don't learn some things about the industry (you people really have helped) then I can't really do anything except sit at my desk and collect a paycheck. I wouldn't know anything about what a driver's tasks for a job MIGHT be, because the other side of HR doesn't put it all there in detail for us to tell you.
Eskimo6804: You don't believe my statement about recruiter incomes? I think it's posted on the JB Hunt Website if you don't believe me. Full Time has 2 Options:
1. 30k base plus commission
2. 13k base plus a Higher Commission. -
Congrats Man! I hope you ace that interview, and use eveything you have learned here to your advantage!
