i dont see how they arent hiring, they lose people all the time, i am no longer with nabors, i am working some where else now doing the same thing, i cant go further than this for now.

its cool, this is everyones thread, there is no derail, you can say or do as you wish. do you have an rv? i hear housing is brutal in odessa/midland, finding a job there is no problem though.

well, i'm still alive, the transition to another job has been quite an endeavor. i cant answer anything about my new job just yet, theres plenty of trucks and all the hours i can handle, will update when my feet are more wet. Yes, i ahve an rv now and its going to be all about work and sleep, i'm really going to burn it up this time, i love driving and the oil field. Heres something to learn, if theres more drivers than trucks, its hard to get the kind of hours i like to work. I think nabors is good for a newb and then make your decision after you know what you want, then stay or move on. Ive found that nobody out here pays ####, its a bunch of crap, these companies make plenty of money and part of it is by not paying people. Its 2012 for christ sake, its a dangerous and high responsibility job, it should pay 20+ minimum, whatever, it is what it is.

thanks bud, yep, i ALWAYS come out on top, this oil field has won a few battles but never close to winning the war, i kick the oil fields ### all the time and i can honestly say ive OUTWORKED it at nabors.

i think its 34 ft, i got a little toyota truck, dont have to pull it far, i'll pull the ##### thing with my bare hands if need be.

dude, they got big mouths every where around here, people need to put their head down and get to work, people got plenty of time to talk #### because they arent doing their job. Some of the stuff that goes on around here is gross.

n.d aint no piece of cake, ive looked into a few things there and its getting rediculous, if youre a rook with no housing, you got to be careful, theres money there but its not exactly what it seems. its no different here in texas in a sense, ive knocked on every door here from sonora to big lake, nobody pays ####. ive done the calculations, i figure as a rook, you can make a grand more per month in ND but look at the price you got to pay, i dont think its worth it.....not for a grand.

but i do know you can make much more in ND but its going to take some time, by that time, i'm out of here and moving to the woods.

    gdyupgal Thanks this.

I didn't think you would stay there too long. Like you saidits great for a newb but you won't find what your looking for over there. If your looking for more than 20hr you won't find it in Texas hauling water. I'm a pusher for one of the largest water hauling companies in my area and I don't make that. Remember these companies are making 85-100 per hour for their trucks which seems like a lot but the first time some newb gets stuck in the mud and blows a rear end all that profit is gone for three days to a week. Or somebody forgets to put a little oil in their pump and poof there goes 7k. Or a few thousand for a set of drives that might not make it to the next pm. Just be reasonable with what you expect and you'll find somewhere your happy.

Don't have an RV. I plan on tenting it to save on expenses for now. Once I get a job offer, then I can look for a room, or take company housing, whatever I gotta do. :biggrin_255:

naw man, i'm not buying that. I used to be in business and i been doing alot of observing out here. Ive also been doing alot of talking with some owners out here, mom and pop type places. They go on a little run and boom, they are buying more trucks, so the money is there. They are making the money. Its a profitable buisness, thats why theres always somebody opening up shop. I havent seen any of them go out of buisness. Yes, i know when the oil field slows down, everyone suffers, but the risk reward ratio is wayyyyy on the side of doing business.

Not trying to sound like a prick, yes, lets all be reasonable, but the thing is, the infastructure is not being reasonable. For instance, in ozona, you will be paying 1500 a month for a motel, big lake, forget about it, midland, forget about it, even in big lake, you have to wait for an rv space and EVERYONE is gouging, 6 pack of decent beer is 10 bucks on up, like the hornet says, whenever you eat, its ten bucks.

Whatever, it is what it is, but these companies are making money and they arent paying enough for what they want. Some of these companies want you to do everything, change tires, change brakes etc. etc, ok no problem, but jeez, pay me a little bit.

Theres no gap in pay between me, the guy who goes and gets it, always pre trips, maintains his truck etc. etc. and the bozo who is there just to collect a check. Maybe you make a buck more an hour than the bozo after a while, but does that sound good?......not to me man and i sure as hell never got that extra buck, all i got is the thumbs up and wish they had more people like me.......yeah, i bet they do.

Name one employer that isnt tickled pink about you putting in 90 hours a week, theres a reason for that. Look, i'm just sayin what i'm sayin, they dont pay #### out here and things are getting expensive, it aint going to break my stride, i'll still come in with the good attitude and burn it up, but ####### if i'm not going to acknowledge the obvious. The paychecks are good but the wages suck, thats the bottom line.

lol a tent, thats pretty awesome, i thought of that too and just live on the extreme bare minimum and save every nickel possible. I think an rv solves alot of problems but its still not a guarentee, like i said, there isnt open spots in big lake and the waiting is a few weeks, no cable, no internet. Its tough living.

you'll find a job no problem. I hear san antonio is wall to wall good looking women.

by the way guys, be careful of any emails you might get from the supposed IRS. Its a scam to get your private information, the irs doesnt ssend you emails telling you how much of a return you'll be getting. I got a few of them and called my tax guy, its bs.

Any idiot with a little capital and a contract with an operator can make it in a boom. Just wait till the while thing goes bust (cause it will, not to scare anybody it's just reality) and you'll see companies drop like flys. I've witnesed it first hand. When the bottom fell out one of the bigger companies bid a huge contract at cost. They could do that cause thy had the pockets. Within a month all the mom and pops were shutting down. Lots of owners when to prison over embesling and tax fraud. Why do you think so many new companies are popping up. Do you think that it's never been this busy before. Hell yes it has but the bottom fell out and all the mom and pops went under because all the profit margin went away when the big boys bid everything at cost.

most of the companies out here have always been here, lots of the ones that are popping up are also from different areas. I got the word from an owner the other day that one of the bigger oil company said they have work set up here to run even if the barrel goes down to 65 bucks and i seriously doubt its going that low. Theres a lot of projected work in the big lake area, work for the next few years easy, thats why companies are popping up here......now all they got to do is hand over a little dough.

Its like a giant conspiracy down here, nobody is budging past 17 and alot of these places, there yards are a dirt lot. They want the money dude, they all talk about how many more trucks they are buying, the money is obviously there, it wont trickle down any further though.

Ive done my part and cut interviews short when it comes to the money. Other drivers should do the same instead of flipping sides all the time. At least a few of these owners know that not everyone is going to work for their skewed wage.

These oil companies make plenty and now they are getting chincy about signing tickets. Instead of idiots coming out here and conspiring and squeezing drivers, they all should be squeezing the oil companies.

Man, pay more and pass it on to the oil service companies, they would have no choice but to bend, but nope, its not going to work like that because drivers arent fighting for a decent wage, all they do is run around in circles going from one place to the other and find out its one big wash.

I myself have settled too but at least i sent a few messages out there and in a few months i'm gonna demand more money or else i'm out of there.

Most guys are way to broke to look for another job or demand more money. Most guys I work with make a grand a week pretty easily. After breakfast at mcdonalds, two packs of marbloros, a burger for lunch, a twelve pack for dinner, and all the other bills these guys are trying to borrow money from me three days before payday. I know it feels like your getting screwed out here and the price of oil would never possibly go below 65 but it will. When I was in west tx it was at 147 a few months later it was around 30, natural gas went from 14 per unit to 3. Those companies who kept some ofthose profits in the bank were the ones who kelt their hands working cause they could do cheap work. It's all a give and take but your not looking for a career so I say go to the highest bidder and keep saving that money like you have been cause this time when the oilfield crashes the rest if the economy will take off.
