If you started May 24 you were probably in training for a month. Then you were probably in Evo 3 for about 4-6 weeks. This means you only gave it about 2 months before you quit (abandoned truck). Crap rolls down hill buddy. There are a lot of other drivers out there who have been there longer. Do you think a 2 month vet should get better loads/miles than a 5, 10, or 20 YEAR vet? IMO if you are not willing to stick it out at least a year its a five letter word, another way to call a cat a kitten.

I work with guys like that too. They have just started, and get mad if they get a handbomb load. The guy that trained me with 26 years seniority still gets the odd handbomb load... why should a guy thats been there 2 weeks be exempt?
Somehow, IMO society has got the cart before the horse. -
I apologize to those who took offense to my comments. Maybe some of you are recruiters, maybe some are admnistration, more likely though most are probably pretty happy drivers. I was angry that I was being charged with vehicle abandonment because the fact of the matter is, I did not abandon the vehicle I offered to return it. I was told it would not be a problem only to be informed later that it would. But it does not matter anyway. To everyone in this forum, whether you are happy at Roehl or not, I wish the best. However I have to say to those of you who suggest that I should not complain about the miserable miles I got, I disagree. Put simply, I was promised one thing and recieved another. All of my loads were handbomb loads. As a matter of fact, my best run was about 800 miles. I never refused a preplan, and I was late once.
I am not angry, I am actually quite happy at my new job. But when someone promises is you something and then fails to deliver, it looks bad, that is all. -
Betty Beaver and Bucks and Ducks, or for that matter, anyone wotking for Roehl: I'll be in driving school in about 6 months and the school I attend has Roehl as one of their placement companies. I'm clearing my debts, saving some bucks and getting ready to drudge through that 1st year. I've heard if you can make it through the 1st year and keep your chin up, then you will make it. My question is: How is Roehl for someone living way down south in Louisiana. Will I get far enough south to get hometime every 3 weeks or so? If I don't want to slip and share a truck, is that an option in OTR? Do they force North east and Canada? Not that it's that big of a deal, but I hear that some companies keep running you north so much, that if you live in the south, you won't see home for a long time. What gives?

Hey betty, how long have you been with roehl? I am currently in the military and will retire in the near future. I have read about people leaving Roehl because of the miles the first year. I look at it this way. in the military you start at the bottom rung, and in here you just can't up and quit because you signed on for 4-6 years. I did my time and did my ##### details. But in the end i worked my way up and made my rank. I am now in charge of my Squadrons Military Working Dog section. I have got the attitude that i have to prove myself and get the experience in truck driving. We are in an age where everybody thinks that they are due. They don't think they have to work to get ahead. Everything is suppose to be handed to them on a silver platter. To me thats not how i was raised. You have to work to get ahead and prove thatr you can do the job and do it right. Right now im in iraq for the 4th time in 4 yrs. im gone from home for a minimun of 8-9 months at a time. So i look at 3-4 weeks as a vacation. Plus, i will have my military retirement to suplement my first years at Roehl, so yes im in a better position than most, but i did have to sacafrice alot to get that retirement. I will be happy to be just driving a truck (flatbed) and seeing the country. By the way betty this wasn't directed to you but to all that complain about not getting paid and quitting the first year. Sometimes you have to sacafrice someting to get ahead later.
