Just some of the stupid things I see

    I tried bluetooth for about an hour. I quickly found that there is no conversation that danged important to me. My family knows how to signal me on the cell if it's an emergency. I really don't care for talking on the phone when driving, especially as I've gotten older. I just don't care about it that much.

    I think it's sad when businesses have to post a sign saying "No cell phone usage at the counter" nowadays.

    If they are so impolite and DISRESPECTFUL to you as to be on the phone with someone not involved in the situation at hand,, please return the favor and direct them to hang up and call that person back when you have finished with your "OFFICIAL" business. I hate to say it but, disrespectful idiots like that make the rest of us look bad.

    I use the over the head type bluetooth, as I do conduct most of my business over the phone from brokers but, I also make them quickly aware that I am driving ATM and will have to be patient in the event I am in an area I feel uncomfortable about and alot of times I ask them if I can call them back when I stop,, most are agreeable as they want me to haul the freight. If I am on the phone via bluetooth,, I never take my mind off of the road around me and if it does come to the point of distracting me,, a simple,, "let me call you back" works quite well for me.

    All that means is that a driver cannot claim "personal conveyance" in the middle of his work day while he's supposed to be working. For example. personal conveyance cannot be used to drive empty to your next load. You must be relieved from work....as in if you worked a "normal" job, you'd be off the clock on your own time.....such as in commuting to/from the terminal, driving from the motel to find someplace to eat, etc.

    ......and one more thing: Hang up the #### phone before you go into the bathroom. Nobody else in the bathroom wants to hear your conversation, and the person on the other end of the phone doesn't want to listen to your bathroom activities. It's pretty friggin disgusting if you ask me. Take care of your business, then call me back.:biggrin_25516:

    If they are being placed OOS for lack of a specific document, or if they want to make sure they are legal before rolling out again....hell, I'd ask you if you had a fax machine, too, if you asked for any paperwork I should have in the truck that I can't seem to find but the carrier would have a copy of. I'd be well aware of the fact that I was going to get cited....but I'd also want to make sure I had it before rolling out again so that it'd be in the truck the next time I was asked for it.

    Seriously....fax machines aren't all that big. Hell, if I had a land line here at the house, the "all in one" printer/scanner/copier I have sitting here on my desk could send & receive faxes....so I don't buy the "there's no room for it" excuse. Hell, as long as you give a receipt, I wouldn't even be opposed to paying $1/page for the incoming fax...which would more than cover the cost of the phone line, ink, and paper.

    So, If I drop my last load for the day, and my home is much closer than the terminal... Would I still be off duty for my drive home? Taking the truck and trailer home that is....

    Like so much in life, it's knowing when to say "when", so to speak. Unfortunately, so many today don't have the self-control, upbringing, or common sense to know when that time arrives. Stay safe!

    Oh, its possible, just not legal to call it off-duty while driving.

    395.8 Interpretation 26.

    Terminal/home or home/terminal ONLY.
    (terminal = normal work reporting location)

    Just being empty (unladen) is not enough.
