I agree. It all depends on the type of work the truck is going to do. For OTR I would choose a conventional all the time just because of the ride it gives and the extra room you have. Plus it's safer for you as a driver. For the work I did delivering gasoline going into stations all day long the COE's were much safer because you can see more. With our truck and trailers you had the same ride with both types of trucks. We had a driver that obsessed that all he would drive was a conventional. By all definitions he was a supertrucker and failed to prove any driving abilities. And he was cheap.

Well the US must be loaded with supertruckers since all the mfg's here gave up on making them.

I was a bed bugger for 9 years, and I drove cabovers and conventionals, my choice were cabovers. One of the main reasons were the two compaines I worked for the conventionals were single bunk, and the COE's were double bunk. What I can not get over is how many people I have talked to that has came out of driving school or have only been driving 4or 5 years that will set and tell you there is no way that they will drive a cabover when you know that they never have driven one.

Well I have talked to alot of them supertruckers in my twenty some years of driving, and that is why I believe the trucking compines went to conventionals because they used that as a recruiting tactic. SO the demand for cabovers were not there anymore.

Well if you want one, by all means get out your checkbook. There are currently 444 of them listed on Truckpaper not counting the horrible day cab versions (not all in this country) I for one don't know ANYONE just drooling to climb into one daily. Seems the only people who want them, are the ones that never owned one. Freightliner named their last one "Argosy" which ironically is the same name as a local riverboat casino. I know I'd rather spend my money at the boat!

We've been there and have no desire going back.

Theres a few companys in my area that use nothing but cabovers. Some are new Glider Kit trucks with new running gear and motors.

I was working in one for 15 hours a day for 3 months. I personally found it VERY comfortable, I felt like I had more room up front and was able to have everything I needed up there. Being on the farm, I was able to allow my son to hop up front with me while in the field. Son had a kick being able to see everything that the harvester was doing while I was being loaded. I do agree with not enjoying climbing up the ladder every day, but it was a job. I wasn't in now shape or place to complain.
