Anyone have a preference on GPS units? I'm deciding between the PC Miler 750 vs the Ipad 2 with the PC Miler 750 app. :biggrin_25511:

Where do you get the app. I just searched for it and I only see info on it but nothing about purchasing it.

This is for "CoPilot Truck" which refers to using the PC Miler product.

I use copilot on my iPad. Mounts on the dash with some velco and away I go. GPS works good, but I have always backed it up with a paper map. I like the weather and live traffic. I used a laptop for years, then a dash GPS, but the iPad is the best. I think. Large screen, dims at night, and it's an iPad with all the bells bells an whistles. But cost is that if a laptop. Most used trucking apps on my iPad are Copiolt and an axle scale app, ScaleIt.

I was just pondering this very question myself.

I can justify the cost of the iPad better than the cost of the GPS.

Though twice as much, iPad is more functional OUTSIDE of the tractor.

And the iPad helps pass the time. It would be just about perfect if I could find a good log book app like DDL for it.

I use MS Streets and Trips. It is only $40 and you can get alot of info out of this program. GPS is only good to a point and you better know where you are going because it will steer you in the wrong direction at times. I use a truck map just to verify truck routing but for $40 you can not go wrong with MS Streets and Trips. It will let you go the shortest or the quickest, with or without tolls, it will let you put in starting time and ending time per day and tell you exactly when you will be there. Just try it and I think you can save a bundle. I always have my laptop for excel programs so with this loaded on it I don't need anything else. I think they even have a more expensive program that is a gps system also. Just my .02.

Heck i use the GPS that comes on the Iphone, works like a champ and powered by google. No need for a computer. I pad would be cool but its big trying fumble with it while driving.

    I have an iPhone 3s

But doesn't the "Maps" app give you the 4 wheeler route?

My company gives me printed directions every morning. BUT they are in like a 5 font, meaning, I cannot read them at 0600 while going down the highway still dark out with my cab light on then trying to adjust to the dark again.

So I take a sharpie and copy them bigger onto a sheet of paper. That has helped. But it's still, especially being a new driver, frustrating and "distracting" to try to use paper directions to navigate and do it safely. In fact, I don't like doing it at all.

What would be perfect is something where you could type in an address and then "edit" the route yourself. I think google earth and map quest allow you to do this but this option is not feasible while driving.
