You're leaving out a very important point. Most doctors have more than enough mental capacity to learn to drive a truck. The same can't be said for most truckers. For some guys, driving truck is about all they can manage and even still, they struggle with it. I'm not knocking truck drivers but it is what it is.
I mean lets face it, how many times have we seen guys on this very forum ask for help with the 'breaks' on their truck. They ask this even though they have a yellow knob which they push at least once a day and probably more that has the word 'Brakes' clearly labeled on it.
I know its frowned on to pick on people because they can't spell on this forum. But the fact remains that the ability (or lack thereof) to correctly spell a word which you should be looking at every single day speaks directly to your ability (or lack thereof) to do other things. I don't know every doctor on the planet, but most of the doctors I do know would easily be able to tell you the difference between the meaning of the word breaks and brakes. How many truckers can do that? Judging from this forum, not that many. I'm just sayin'.
HOS what's the point?

you can still drive a truck in circles around a lot of truckers if you cannot spell.

Some guys get all the brakes

I have had two drivers working for me who could not read and write. Apparently, their girlfriends would do their paperwork for them. I still have no idea how either got their CDL without being able to read and write.

I didn't find out about them until later. Both were very good at covering it up. I have taken steps to prevent it from happening in the future. -

You'll drive tired. That is the summary of your statement. The reasons matter not just your admission of endangering others. There is no rule or law now preventing you from taking your nap. Or you could just plan better and accomplish your tasks before you require a nap. For that matter if driving as you do proves to arduous perhaps another career.
At least you finally admit there are less accidents. So your entire theory of the HOS causes more is out the window yes?
Unconcious and in a life threatening situation I will take my chances with any Doctor. We while driving do not have to make that choice of certain death without
treatment or accepting treatment from someone who might be diminished. No freight requires that choice. Hence your comparitive argument is also false. -

B)OOIDA's original claim in the case was denied. You would have to go read the opinion to find out they are as usual lying through their blow holes about what a great victory they scored. The issue adressed by the court was not even part of their original filing.
C) There are drivers, O/O, and companies "pushing" for EOBR's as well as civilians. See a lot of people understand that HOS compliance does improve highway safety. And further advances in compliance enforcement through new technologies can only improve that fact.
All the people wanting open split of the sleeper:
Well when we tried that drivers used it as a way to hide on duty time at shippers reciever. You know it and I know it. Much like the PC rule now is, the open split was abused to violate the regulation because proving the vilation occured in most cases proved impossible. Hence the iron clad 14 hour reg.
Yeah I hear all the" No one can tell me to sleep". Your right. However we as a society providing your roads can tell you when you are allowed to drive. And no self-preservation as an argument does not track. If all it took was people not wanting to be injured you would never have an accident ever for any reason. But greed, paranoi, lack of discipline, debt, and myriad of reason cause people to endanger others in pursuit of their goals.
That is what all of the FMCSR's are about. Preventing those casualties.Stump Thanks this.
