You want to see what the wind can do. Look at the "WRECK HOUSE" in Newfoundland, CANADA. FULLY loaded trains have been knocked off the tracks. So bad in fact that the trains were taken out of Newfoundland and tracks were taken up and never used again. Now a days with 60km winds outside the "WRECK HOUSE" it could be 200km in side the "WRECK HOUSE" area and trucks are blown off the road all the time.

Actually it is the mountains which funnel the wind and the jet stream to the surface.

The union pacific railroad did not use the route I80 uses in wyoming due to the winds blowing.

wind doesn't affect flatbeds much, barring the load of course. A 9000 pound 13 ft high load of foam it might. :biggrin_255:

I one time had to go from south of Chicago to Iowa with an empty 53 dry van to pick up a load of automotive batteries, I went cross country rather than I 80 on 2 lane, many times when empty I observed the wheels on the traile lift off the ground. I was extremely happy to get my load of batteries, what a relief. Headed back towards Chicago I saw at least 6 trucks overturned from the wind. tom

I80 was supposed to follow 30 through Medicine Bow, but Lady Bird Johnson wanted it to follow a "scenic route" :banghead:.
