Because of the sheer amount of stuff you have to carry on flatbed, and the sheer LACK of storage space on a light weight. I'm the wife of a lightweight reefer driver. I've been in the truck. I KNOW how much space is in there. I also know how much crap you gotta carry (tarps, straps, chains). JCW's tire chains take up 1/3 of his underbunk storage.

Add to that, at least on the Cascadia (Cubby) the engine is a DD13, not the DD15, so power could be an issue, given some of the terrain FB finds itself in.

Not a driver, just an intelligent person who knows how to think thins through.

do the light weight trucks at least have an upper bunk that you could store things?
looking at a couple pics i have found looks like the only difference in space between regular cascadia and the light weight is they took the storage closet and fridge parts out and shortened the entire cab by a foot or two.?

where does everyone store there cloths and such in the lightweight trucks

The only decent LW I have seen is the Pro-Star.

Have people in LW's had good luck with MPG hauling those heavy loads? I hear they get 46-49K consistently.......

There are a few cute trucks on the flatbed side. However not many. I asked my FM about flatbed using them. He said it was mainly a desperation move due to lack of trucks. Theres no wisdom in using the cute trucks for flatbed. Theyre far too small. We have to carry: 18 chains, I have over 20 straps, edge protection (a few different types), 18 chain binders, coil racks, dunnage.... Thats just the basics of what we have to carry.

Last year I had a lw columbia 2010 for a short time in refer. It had decant shelves around the top were the extra bunk would have been, just a driver seat and 1 tank on the passenger side which meant you had to turn on the drivers side pump first in order to fuel and you were not able to go far without requesting a fuel stop. It also had a manual drivers window, tinny sounding speakers and a lot of road noise coming from the rear when you bob tailed, probably less insulation. I took it because it was real clean, non smoker and only had 25k miles on it I should have taken one of the 3 Pete condos that were there instead. It was a north east truck meant for short runs. I found out later why the orientation manager looked at me funny and asked are you sure.

If the truck doesn't have an APU already, you make a shop appointment, tell your FM when it is, and they route you back to make the appt. JCW keeps about 10 days worth of clothes in the truck, I think. He has plenty of room. But then, he's a little feller.

Good morning all, I was wondering when you turn your paperwork in for your loads how do you accomplish this is it mailed, faxed, scanned and emailed? Just wondering how you get it back so you can be paid for it. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
