Why not just put in new leaf springs with the bushing in allready?
Bushings wore out, so you would think the springs might be a little weak as well.
There is a tool for that app.
Talk with the freightliner guys or go to a spring shop if one near your place.
Me, I just went and had all new springs and bushing installed on my trk. last year. Plus all new bolts.. -
When intalling them make sure they are going in straight. If not they will bind up and you'll have to push them back out to straighten them up.
Its easier if they are off the truck. If not patience is your friend so remember to just walk away for a few minutes!
I've rebushed mine twice now and no spring issues. The bushing is pretty cheap, I have no clue what that spring would cost. -
Les2, The reason I replaced my springs was the trk. is a 99 and I do h.h. work. So I just went that way.. lota years and weight on those old springs.
I know the young man doing the job said I got a brand new driver for bushing springs and was wanting to try it out. But he didn't get the chance for my job.
So I do know there is a tool to help keep them straight like you stated when installing. -
Does the 99 have a single leaf spring or dbl leaf? I know on mine, a 93 its dbl leaf but the suspension I put on it from an 01 is single leaf. I don't care for the single, I noticed a big difference on my first load out. The dbl leaf is much more stable in heavy haul. I'm permitted for 46k on the drives. I'm thinking about putting the dbl leaf back on.

Mines a double leaf. 46 k rear ends factory installed

If you get a chance take a picture of them for me I've never seen them before. I would like to know what the difference is.

what of the rear ends?
They are meritor rears, double lockers -
these are eaton rear ends and they have 2 leaf springs attached. The problem now is I can't get the plate off below the rear but I got the nuts off the u bolts. Any ideas on how to get the plate off and would it be wise to just replace the springs.
-
General rule of thumb. When you take the bolts off the U- bolts. Replace the U- bolts. The reason is the threads get stretched out and they have a chance to never be tight.
Some may argue with me, but that's what I have allways done.
Replacing the springs is up to you. I stated why I replaced mine.
If funds tight then just change out the bushings. Also how much weight are you carrying most of the times?
