Gluten is also used on its own as a protein supplement, particularly for people who do not have access to other protein sources. The protein it contains also makes it useful in meat substitutes, especially those used in vegan and vegetarian diets. Imitation meats or wheat meats, such as seitan, are often made of concentrated gluten.

    Gluten Intolerance

Gluten intolerance is a term that is used to describe three conditions: wheat allergy, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and celiac disease. According to research, between 5 and 10 percent of all people may suffer from some form of sensitivity. All three conditions are difficult to diagnose, however, so it is thought that many people are not aware that this intolerance may be the source of other health issues.

Feb. 20, 2012 -- Move over fat, salt, and sugar. There’s a new dietary villain in town and its name is gluten.
Scan the grocery aisles and it’s impossible to miss the proliferation of products proclaiming that they are “gluten-free.”
Pick up a magazine or go online and you are likely to read about yet another celebrity or athlete who has banished gluten from their diet.
By one estimate, as many as 18 million Americans have some degree of gluten sensitivity, but a new analysis raises questions about the claim and the benefits of a gluten-free diet for most people.

See some people have an intolerance to gluten, just as I have an intolerance to lactose. But Neither are toxic.

I drink one 16oz can of Monster a day. For breakfast. With a banana. Then, usually about 3-4 hours later, while I'm unloading product, after setting everything up, doing a truck/tanker inspection, I eat another banana while I'm unloading product.

That's it really. USUALLY I don't drink more than one can a day. maybe 2-3 times a month I'll drink two in a day. It's rare though.

If I drink coffee I gotta dope it up with all that french vanilla crap and that junk isn't good for ya either.

I would like to point out something. Every time they interview the new worlds oldest person, I rarely hear them preach about eating some "insert bad substance here" diet. I never hear about them preaching some dietary villain. You don't gotta live your life in fear of food. Be smart and don't eat 10 cheeseburgers a day. Be active and quit trying to be as sedentary as you possibly can. Laziness is your worst enemy.

Everyone preaches these diets. Funny, while I was in the Marine Corps, the chow hall served all these evil things everyone mentions. Yet, I'd contend that US Marines are amongst the healthiest of people I the country.

I eat everything I like, in moderation. I would also contend that I'm in the top 5% of health and body mass amongst drivers.

The previous worlds oldest man gave his secret to long life: Cigarettes, Whiskey, and wild wild women.

I agree with Ram. The last interview with an over 100 year old man i watched he said he ate doughnuts and steak as the main staples of his diet. So really i dont believe anything that is said about foods. Like one personal trainer told me its all in how many calories you eat. you can eat 1500 calories of mcdonalds every day and you will lose as much weight as if you ate 1500 calories of vegetables. You would not be as healthy because you would not be getting the vitamins and minerals you need.
I also think the statement about peanuts and peanutbutter is untrue since it is a staple in almost every athlete/body builder's diets.

If I am forced to (or get a craving for) fast food, I will avoid the fries and drink altogether and just get a burger or two. Most of the quarter pound burgers are no more than 400-600 calories each so eating two of those without cheese and without tons of mayo will pretty much shoot my calorie count for the day but won't put me over my 1500 calorie limit. Start adding bacon, extra cheese, mayo and a burger will get high calorie fairly quick.

Now the big burgers like Carls Jr and those bigger portioned (1/3-1/2 lb of meat) burgers that McD's and Burger King offer are a lot more calories. Just one of those is more than enough calories for 2 meals, for me.

You can get on their websites or pick up pamphlets in most of the fast food joints that will show you the nutritional value of their menu. Not all of it is horrible, you just have to be smart when you go there and eat it in strict moderation.
