It only says that if one is on insulin, one cannot drive, there is no mention of "under 200".
when you go for the physical, and you WEE-WEE positive for sugar, they may very well "stick you" and tag you a diabetic from that point on.

well i got the 1 year card.
the DMV hasn't seen it yet. well, what i mean is i haven't given it to them.
is it already "tied" to my drivers license? -
what it said was if glucose is found in the urine, a blood test is done, and the level has to below 200.
after you wrote that, i found the official rule that states only that if you're on insulin you can't drive. i'm not on insulin, and i'm pretty sure i will never be on it. i plan on getting my A1C back down to below 7. it was 6.5, 6.1 and 7.0 over the last 2 years. my own stupidity is why it went up to 9.0. i won't do that again.
as the doctor told me, i don't have to give up my favorite foods. i just can't have them all the time. and i took the first (literal) step yesterday. i'm now officially walking. i started at 1/2 mile a day, and yes that's baby steps. today it's raining. i'm hoping it will quit raining so i can walk. -
Check with your state DMV regarding this, as some states may require some of us to go BEFORE that date, to probably avoid long lines.
And by the way, EVERY TIME we renew our DOT physical.??? WE MUST take that to the DMV to be updated.Last edited: Apr 23, 2012

As long as you have a current DOT medical certificate, you're fine. Doesn't matter if it's 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months. It will not hurt your employment. Most employers don't care which one you have as long as you have one and it's current.
..NOT having a DOT medical certificate will hurt your employment. -

Anyway, what's done is done. Most of you said it would NOT be an issue. I know it's my responsibility to get the card renewed at the end of the year.
Now for the CDL written tests to get my learner's permit. I took them today, and did not pass the air brakes section. I was pretty close to passing, though, and will take it again tomorrow. -
Well..You are IN SERIOUS trouble. It's more than doing the "RIGHT THING" it's about protecting your ###. In this game you had better learn to do that,or you will NOT be out here long.
Do as you will,I'm just trying to help but at the end of the day,it means nothing to me what you do. -
bumpy,
maybe you didn't understand what i wrote. i decided to follow your advice and NOT try to get a 2 year card. I got the 1 year card, and gave that to the DMV this morning.Bumpy Thanks this. -
I'm on CPAP for Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
I get a one year card.
No big deal.
Methinks you were fretting over the wrong stuff, 101. Two years....one year....does it really make that much difference? Not to me it doesn't.Bumpy Thanks this.
