" If you delve a little deeper - the draft was still common right up until the early 70's and most GI enlistments were for 8 years.
I'm sure that many of you are going to squawk and say I was in the military and I only served two or three years.
Yes - that was true - but your enlistment was for 8.
Which means after the 3 years was up - you were subject to recall for the other 5 years "

    :biggrin_2556: News to Me :biggrin_2556:

    US Army active 1968-1970, Active reserve 1970-1972 , inactive reserve 1972-1974 = 6 years ....

"Well CJ if you know your history, you will also know the CB was intended to be primarily a tool used for business communications. However people eventually found it was something to do in the after hours "

Correct and only after the FCC gave up did this change This is why it is still legal to do business communications on CB ( Part 95 ) BUT NOT HAM RADIO ( Part 97 )

Interesting topic here. I've been considering buying another cb radio. I sold mine a while back when I came off the road. How's the Galaxy compare to a Cobra? I'm not concerned with having tons of do-dads, mostly I use a cb for work, but it's nice to hold a conversation when possible, rare as it is anymore. My little hand hekd Midland is only good for shippers, receivers, and as an alternate means to help give backing instruction instead of hollering at the already stressed out students. Poor guys, I feel so bad for the ones I see in that situation.

The galaxy CBs are really no better then the cobras. A Cobra works just as good as a galaxy but for less money. If you are really penny pinching then the Cobra 25 will do all you need. Same performance as the cobra 29 but in a smaller package.

HT's are limited by the antennas it is a bit hard to have a 9 foot wip on a handheld .....

MOST CB radios are just fine for what you need .....
