Anybody have any thoughts on the 2.79's this truck has? Is there a mathematical formula I can use to determine if it will be a slug or not?

EGRless DEF engine use more DEF but with zero NOx emission too, EGR saves about 30% of DEF

if it's a 10 spd direct, your 2.79 gears should be about right.

Good advice ! EGR engines are problematic regardless of who makes them, scr engines are much more reliable, That d13 engine is a good one and you are correct about the 16 litre, not nearly as reliable and the ishift is the best semi auto box there is, no arguing there, it's so good it can't be considered a 'toy'

My experience is that SCR is less reliable thing then EGR, but I wanna pay attention that truck makers use EGR in combination with SCR to save DEF

Jayzus I don't know about that, everyone I know is complaining about egr, less reliable, sensor problems and harder on fuel, my boss is running all scr's and none are causing any trouble except the backpressure is causing the manifold gaskets to fail due to pulling loads of u to 330,000 lbs . he has currently taken the scr out of two of them and this helps but at normal weights this wouldn't be an issue

Volvo said they will not turn the hp up because the tranny is rated at 1450 tk. They said the drivetrain will fail and the clutch will slip with the other 80 hp and 200lbs tk.

    I guess the search continues. Can't use this truck @ 405 & 1450. :-(

You should see if u can get one with the ishift box. Volvos own Trannys take over 2700 ftlbs of torque
