Do what makes you feel most comfortable regardless of the wait.

my mentor had a female trainee once, said it was different and he wouldnt do it again, and it had nothing to do with the student or him, it was more the logistics, he teach's you to drive hard, to be a good driver, and to make money, it was more the logistics, you cant stop on the side of the road with a woman, you have to sleep with shirt and shorts on, just alot of things are different he said, its why Ive researched who Im getting to train my wife when she gets to that stage to get her a good mentor who is female and will teach her to be the best. My advice though with swift is ask for a company mentor and wait if need be, you will learn more

Gender has nothing to do with a trainer's capabity or professionalism. If you have any concerns, I would talk to the individual trainer if I were you and explain your concerns respectfully and professionally. Respect is a two way street. You may get stuck with soneone who is just using you as an added log book, or you may get somebody who has 13 years experience like I was lucky enough to get. You may be your trainer's first student. Just remember that we can all learn from one another, and everybody started out a rookie no matter how wonderful a driver they are now. Be polite, and don't sink to the level of the uncooth. You're a lady, you're above such idiocy.

my take is just be upfront with the office ppl about your needs. Even as a male you get good and bad trainers. I had to call the trainer manager and request a new trainer after only 3 days not only did I get a new trainer that picked me up as we were unloading at a stop but that trainer was put out of service until repairs were made to his truck and was kicked off the traing staff. I am sure my picture is on his dart board but in life today it is CYA

I had a male trainer, and had no problems at all. I have heard other lady drivers say they had a trainer try to get into bed with them. I couldn't say if there is any truth to that, or if they were just making stuff up. Quite honestly, you could have a female trainer try to get into bed with you. It's possible.

My advice, use your intuition upon meeting your trainer. Before you ever get into the truck, size him/her up. There are many reasons you may not be a good match. Annoying little habits can be tolerated for a few weeks, but if you completely clash with each other right off the bat, it's best to walk away and wait for another.

This is one of the biggest reasons on why Schneider will be my starting company. You're out for about a week, give or take, with a trainer. If I am out with a male (and surely I will), they will pay for a motel room we can take turns using each night.

I don't think a trainer being male is so much of a problem for me, as it would be for my husband. I think the only-a-week thing and motel puts his mind at ease. For me, I just hate the thought of sleeping in the same room with anybody, male or female.

Another thing I like about the Schneider situation... the trainers are paid per day, not per mile. Less temptation to want to run like a team driver.

If you do have to go out with a male trainer for weeks on end, I imagine that chance are the situation will be just fine. I could see the chances of him being a PITA about the same as a female being a PITA. Just be sure to treat their truck like it's their home, and to be respectful to them as they are your teacher.

ahhhh....I dont think one week with a trainer is really enough time to be ready to be on the road solo, but im hoping it goes well

Very true, and thank you for wishing me well.

I know this sounds arrogant and silly, but if there's a certain kind of person who can deal with such a small amount of training and just jump right in, I think I'm it. I suppose only time will tell though, huh?
