He's probably refering to loading at meat plants/produce sheds etc. and delivering to grocery warehouses. Plus, babysitting the load AND unit, which is a diesel engine that can breakdown and needs fluids checked.

Speaking of hopper. I am typing this as my hopper is getting loaded. We started harvest this last weekend.
Do you get much harvest work? Here in IL that is when we make our money.
You will do a lot of grocery warehouse loads. These tend to be early morning appointments. Made plenty of 4 am appts. And for some reason the driver is not treated very well. I personally got tired of the abuse.
On the plus side, the rates are a little better and less fluctuation during the year. -
I pulled mostly out Excel in Dodge when I ran for them. Mostly groceries back to Ks. But... thats been years ago so it may have all changed by now.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Hey Everyone ! Thanks to ya'all for helping me with your responses, but now we can close this thread. After visiting with several drivers this week when parked for the night I have decided to keep my hopper hooked up. Again, Thanks to All !

Nicer people to deal with pulling hoppers then the reefers and hoppers are a lot quieter when trying to sleep. I pulled a reefer for a very short time back in the early nineties and the grocery warehouse guys sure want to get a drivers blood pressure up.

I have never drove fopr a better company. They know your name and work with you to get you home when you want. You can run as many miles as you can log. Nice to be treated like a person instead of a number.
Joetro Thanks this. -
Can you answer a few questions honestly?
1. What is the true percentage?
2. How much deadhead is involved? Any of it paid?
3. Do you have a loop or dedicated route that you take or is it constantly changing?
4. What does a meat load from Witchita to LA actually pay per mile?
He has offered us a loop without guaranteeing that and frankly, it makes me leery. Either we get a route or we are open for torture. lol
We've been running team for the past 4 1/2 years together, reefer only, and will not come to the meat patch unless the money is there. He says the loads from Witchita to LA pay $1.85 per mile + fsc... -
I will be leasing on next week I will keep the thread going and let yall know wuts up,sounds ok plus I haven't found any negative remarks about them so my hopes are high.

I've been with them for about two months and I am probably as happy as I've been in a long time and I'm not a reefer guy. Hated the things when I pulled them 15 years ago, but loving it now. Go figure.
Get the paperwork in Monday and you're paid Friday. The trailers are in good shape and the shop personnel are top-notch, in my book. Dispatch has been good to me, so far and I get home regularly. My have been bought out by Roadrunner, but they retain the small company feel. Dispatch knows who I am when I call and can usually figure out what I want to do without asking. -
Joetro ; I can't remember the name of the man that I talked to, but he told me that there is alot of driver unload. The example that he used was an account with Lowes, 5000 tree saplings per trailer, driver moves them to the back of the trailer by hand. I responded with surprise because this was a reefer company ! He said that anything might be hauled to keep moving and that they do very little drop & hook, and that physical unloading was a big part of the game. Have you found this to be a part of your experience ?
