how big are your tanks... and what is your mpg...
if they are 125... put on 25 gal and at 6.0mpg you can get 150 mi.
or put on 50gal which at 7lbs (aprox.) per gal that would be another 350lbs to your total weight and you could get 300mi to next fill. -

PeteDucati and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
A 1/4 tank he probably has 35-40 gallons on board. He would have to stay below 60 gallons if he fueled after each coop.
Personally I would make the customer take freight off. It's a no brainer even if I had to drive 30 miles back.
Like others said, know what you can haul the day you get your truck. When ever I'm told to go in a place with less than a half tank usually by a broker, I fill it up.You don't pay me to fuel every couple hours.
Another strategy is drive 3rd shift and hopefully some coops are closed.BigBadBill and AZS Thank this. -
If you have an APU unit, your allowed 400 lbs extra over the 80kbs.=80400
Or call a permit service or your permit dept. and buy an overweight permit for each state. Not real expensive, especially compared to a fine or several fines. -
1 gal of diesel is 7.1lbs....

APU exemption is still in effect but only for the states that have passed the law allowing it. There are a few who don't reconize the 400# exemption.
And you can not get an overweight permit for a load That is reduceable.sonic50 Thanks this.
