I start class May 14. I got two offers. One with Pam trucking and the other with CR England. I have not found a lot of reviews for Pam but a lot of negative reviews for CR England. The cons with going with CR England is the school is for free if you sign for 6 months. With Pam its 12 months and you have to pay the for the class over 12 months. ( 5,995 ). Also CR England pays my bus ticket ( Austin To Dallas ) and has a shuttle from hotel to school. Pam I would pay for the bus ticket ( Austin To Fort Worth ) and would have to find a ride from school to hotel etc. I will not be taking my own car due to that I do not know what happens after class. I am just want to get my foot in the door and pay is not real a big issue. Thanks hope to see yall on the road.:biggrin_25523:

I wouldn't go with C R England. The reason they do that is because of such a high turn over rate. The other one I don't know much about

Now do you want to go OTR or do you eventually want local because a lot of companies will hire rookies

There are thousands of cdl jobs here in the central Texas area. I really just trying to get some training OTR and think the 6 month is best.

Most local companies you dont need to go OTR for. Ive never driven a day of OTR in my life. I have always been local

    Whoa, stop the truck!

$6,000 for CDL school, plus an employment commitment that can be held against you if they starve you out or fire you? You can do much better. I paid less than $1000 out of pocket for a 300 hour community college course, and have my CDL with NO employment commitment with any company. If you don't have the cash to shell out, talk with your local unemployment office about a WIA grant.

If you MUST go the company CDL training route, look into ROEHL or Prime.

I agree with Windsmith. 6,000 is a lot of money plus the commitment. I'm going thru the WIA program here in GA. If I were to pay for this school out of pocket it it 3700 and some months they run a special for 2700. Its a 3 and a half weeks school and the amount you pay covers your licenses and testing. They are definitely ripping you off. Once I'm done I can start at any company of my choice and not have any obligation to them. So I can quit when I want to and not have to worry about paying them a red cent. I would look into other schools. Looks for a Technical college in your area and see if you qualify for a grant. That way you are not indebted to any company. Good Luck and please ask question, these guys and gals around here are always willing to help.

I'll agree with others here and say $6k for school is crazy... and just dumb. :biggrin_2556::biggrin_25521::biggrin_25524:

You can go to a community college for $100-1000 with all the testing and license costs.

Going to a company that makes you commit and/or pay for school is just wrong. :biggrin_25513:

Some more 'wrong' than others. The best I've found, in my opinion is Prime. Excellent and thorough training, and a commitment that's less than one year (unless it's changed recently). 10K miles of initial training, then get your CDL, then 30K miles running as team with a trainer ($600/wk or $0.12/mile during this phase), then upgrade and run solo if your trainer says you're ready.

Only drawback (for some) is to not expect any hometime for the 3-5 months of training.

Don't take the lease immediately after upgrade.
