A lot of bulk haulers are slow now in the northern areas summer is coming so cement and other products should pick up. Feast or famine and Saturdays.
Is anyone there making money? That's the question . You wil get faster with
time loading + unloading etc. Preload your load for the next day is key. But
that's up to your dispatch probably. Good luck
What do you all think?

Yeah, I have no control over pre-loads. It's also only one particular type of cement. Federal White.
I hope you're right about things picking up.
ATM I plan on volunteering for every Saturday possible.
My load&unload times aren't the problem. Heck, I've even gotten fairly proficient in finding my ways to the site and leaving myself plenty of time to do it.
I don't really think I'M the problem, in complete honesty. I just have this thing about doing good pre-trips not just kickin the tires and usually try to keep it slightly above the speed limit. Which means I don't make as good time. So while some guys may make a trip in 2 hours, it takes me closer to 3.
I'm gonna see who's makin what kinda money. Like I said, guys with 1+ yr exp are getting a guaranteed amount. -
Mm did you get a full week ?

Unfortunately local driving just doesn't pay. There are a few gigs out there that do but normally go to the highly experienced. I myself have 16 years in and can't get a good local gig! Over the road is where the dough is and to make it you have to stay out long periods of time.
Hope all works out well for you!
Good luck!

Gotta admit...
My last pay check was up there with what they said. I didn't realize I had made that much. I did a lot of driving though, and many hours.
Yesterday was a fun day. Easy, stress free, no foul ups of any kind. Of course, it was a drop and hook lol.
My BIGGEST issue is that I do NOT want to look like a job hopper. God knows that is what my last 5 years looks like, and I didn't want my new career to follow that same path.
As long as my pay is like this last one, it's acceptable until someone says "Hey, we'll pay you more" - then we'll talk. Make sure it's square deal.
Also, I noticed, the miles I drive, while being pay %, actually always equals out to $0.23 per mile. BUT I have experienced several times, "delays" which prevent me from unloading product timely or other things. ONE day, I sat for FOUR HOURS, with my trainer, at the mill while an error between the client and the mill was straightened out. Me? I was on hourly due to training. But I had 16 hours in that day. That load would have paid me $150.00??? Yeah... you get my point.
The math usually equals out to me making less than $14.00hr by the time I get into the truck, till the time I leave the yard for the day.
I just have to remind my wife that it's either this or OTR and from what I've read, especially being a Rookie, hmmph... I'll be getting the shaft OTR also. PLUS being away from my family way too long at a time.
Thanx for the input, and well wishes. God be with ya'll this weekend. -

I just spent $5k on trucking school. I've learned a lot since then.
I WAS one of those guys that thought I'd get into trucking and make some dang good money. Not this year I guesshaha - "payin my dues"
But what you're saying you make???
Look into Security work. I was making that much doing Security. -

I wouldn't worry too much about being labeled as a "job hopper". According to news reports, drivewr turnover right now is at it's lowest, and it's at 88% 88&?!? That's horrible!!
It shows to me that the industry does not really care about employees and figures that they can always get another driver. And as long as they starve drivers, we'll be looking for better.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Went to Melville NY today.
Got back to the yard with about 3 hrs of AOD time (available on duty).
Every day we have to call in between1700-1800hrs for our schedule for TOMORROW.
I call in - Dispatch says: "ON CALL". *sigh*
Know what on call means? Not enough work to go around. (Refer to previous mentioning of hiring more drivers with a weekly guarantee BS)
It also means, NO WORK unless someone else calls off.
Hmm... and again, my phone is dead... and I can't find the charger.
