Should a Newbie submit more than 1 app.?

See what's out there.
Better on your resume to turn down a conditional offer than to be a job hopper.
Get as many as you can and take the one that best fits your goals.

Im in same boat as a newbie, but i really want to start with the company i believe that benefits me as well i can benefit them. Im looking at approx 5 different companies right now im not going to jump on first offer until 100% sure, cause i would hate to jump around my first year or two dosent look good in my opinion. Good Luck on your choice.

 

What is the downside to applying to all companies that might consider you? None.

What is the upside to applying to only one company? None.

Seems pretty clear to me. Apply everywhere.

 

There is no such thing as a "conditional offer" from an employer that no one else "offers".

It is the typical horse pucky they are "selling you".

Send out as many applications as you can. Some will respond, but many others will not. It's the way it is.

I do NOT suggest filling out an online application that goes to numerous companies.



Having done your research, your choices should be narrowed down to 2-3 good outfits.

Spend your time and energy concentrating on those few outfits.

 

OP is talking about pre-hire letters, and they give them out to anyone who applies if they didn't put something obviously disqualifying them on the app. All it means is that they will consider you for employment.
It doesn't hurt anything to have dozens of them if you can get them.

Once you commit to them, then they look over it with a fine tooth comb and run your DMV checks, physicals, ect., so the prehire does not mean you have a job. The main thing is they have to be able to insure you, and that they have need for drivers from your area. So don't assume that because you get a prehire letter you have a job.

 

Also I was ovethinking this like you seem to be.
Then I talked to my instructor at CDL school, and gave me good advice.

First- OTR experience is OTR experience. doesn't matter where you get it.

Second- If you are going into this cold (like me), you don't have the knowledge base to even know what a good company is and no one else can tell you what is good for you. Every company in the DAC section have people putting them down, and most of the successful drivers for a company are too busy working to be posting on a board (no offense to anyone meant).

Third- Hiring on to a company is not a lifetime commitment, so hopefully you luck out and get a company you like and stay with for the rest of your career, but if not, it is not hard to change jobs, and at that point you know enough to make a better choice.

Just pick a company that offers what you want, and start the process, so you know you have a job, is my advice.

 

Please do not explain anything to me, as you are a newbie or student yourself. When you have the years of time and experience that I have, then you may do so.
