If you got another one and you noticed fingerprints and a missing DC cord, this did not strike you as this was not a new TND? The prior user could have very well done anything to the software on the TND.
As always suggested. Let the 5" or 7" charge for at least 3 hours on AC to bring the battery to full charge.
Thanks,
Mark

Some years ago, I exchanged a CB at a Pilot because it was not working.
Guy comes back with a different box. Oh, different indeed. It was another return CB. How did I know?
The only thing in the box was the radio. No packaging, no instructions, nothing but the radio.
I gotta lay blame on Pilot for this one. So far, my refurbed unit is working fine. Doesn't have the updates, but the only thing I've run into thus far is speed limits that are incorrect for one reason or another, but that is of no consequence to me. -
I did notice and took it back in. Brainiac gave me the wrong receipt and swore that Rand McNally sent that direct. BS I said. It doesn't show well for Pilot that they did that or Rand McNally that another one was turned in. Just saying.

If it booted to an error or would not boot up, it would be hard to say what was done to the TND by the prior customer. In looking at returns last year during the Rand Road Trip I found that 98% of returned units had nothing wrong with them.
So, the question being... do you have a unit or it is not working?

Here's the thing. The TND is an amazing and useful piece of technology. While it worked, I loved it for those two short weeks. But to have it crash in two weeks, that's not acceptable. I don't blame Rand McNally for what happened with the second unit at the Pilot. I don't believe that a company such as RM would have just slapped a new sticker on a defective product and sold it as new. If I were someone in charge, I'd investigate how often DAS does that, because it really puts RM in a bad light. I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened. Back to the first issue, I had a TomTom for cars. Still have it. 2 years old and never crashed, no problems. The TND is better information wise and features wise, there's not even a comparison. But after spending $350-$400 on a piece of equipment, I want it to be able to do the job it was designed to do for more than a few weeks

I think the gist of it is that no matter which brand you buy, much like computers, there are going to be some that are troublesome and others that are less so. Kind of like the adage of never buying a truck that was built on a Monday or Friday.
Computers come to mind. Some buy nothing but Dell. Others won't touch them.
