LOLOL...I know what you mean.....Hubby used to hual crushed cars in a 400 nile radius mostly, he was ALWAYS over 90,000 pounds LOL...He always went around the scales that he had to cross or else he waited until they closed...LOL...He made great money, until the DOT craked down on the owner of the trucks because they kept changing the name of the company, but not changing the trucks.....LOL...Some drivers where getting caught too many times....LOL....it was nice because he was home every night and every weekend mostly and the money he got paid was REALLY nice, but it was in cash, and he didn't offer any benefits though....so now he is driving for Arrow...and we love it, we don't have to take as many chances, and I see the Whole country, instead of just three states.....

Be careful with the overloads. Those trailers sometimes don't hold up under the strain. Seen more than one buckle.
I had an overweight ticket once. The bills stated 36,000 lbs and the load was one item, all shrink wrapped and on pallets. The load was perfect, but when I pulled out if seemed a little heavier than the bills stated.
I had to cross a scale and was ticketed, even when the bills showed out and out fraud on the part of the shipper.
No arguing with DOT. They don't care, but when I got home, I stayed home and took it to court. The ticket was thrown out.
Problem is, most drivers can't afford to take the time to go to court so the fraud continues.
When they start fining the shippers the overweights will stop. -
I see what you're saying there. All I run are wood chips though. My trucks their trailer. The biggest thing that makes me feel ok about running these weights is they will pay my overweight tickets, but nothing else. I got that in writing before I hired on. Its a legal document and I made everyone from the owner to the lawyer, down to the secratary sign it.

Fat Boy Loads still go on your record. I don't know how much weight they carry towards moving to another company, but they don't go away over night.

No one taught me not to use the far right lane, but after travelling 4,6 or 8 lane roads, I soon worked out that I was safer in the next lane over. No merging traffic. Sometimes, if I am struggling to stay at the posted speed, I will move over into the right lane, and let the merging traffic do their thing around me.
It still amazes me that some days, even when I slow down for a merging 4 wheeler, that they will slow down more than me to merge behind me... oh well... I tried. -
C1 teaches their students to stay in the middle lanes. First, it leaves you an "out" with lanes to both sides of you. Second, less likely to smack into a moron who fails to use the acceleration lane to actually accelerate and pulls out in front of a 65ft sled doing 20mph slower than the rig.
Trucks.....they no stoppa so good. -
Yes, I still believe some people get their Drivers Licenses from Cracker Jacks, or perhaps K-Mart. However, some may get theirs from Wal Mart these days.
I stay in the middle lane passing through congrested areas or second from the right. My only reason to move to the right lane is to exit. Too many bone headed drivers on the roads to take a chance. Including some cops. I have seen them do some pretty stupid things on our highways.
However, some realize it as I had one appologize for cutting me off one day. Almost got him when he cut in front of me after some other jerk off.

Shoot, over the past few years I made several trips cross country, in my little ole pick up truck. It didn't take me long to figure out that there were a lot of things that truckers do that also kept me out of danger. And as a lonely traveler I kept my eyes on what they were up to, and it kept me safe and out of a few bad situations. (Not with truckers either, other cars). I thought It was obvious why the middle lane got used, and I've never even been in a truck. Oh, and I don't draft either. I go around.
I'm just bored so I thought I'd add to the thread.

Glad you did. Many on the road understand because of the way they were taught (old school), but many don't understand. Likewise, with the new Trucking Industry "Thanks to Government Influence", many truck drivers have no clue, so becareful and keep your eyes open.
The world of trucks have changed drastically over the years and the comrodery is not the same as it was a few short years ago. Some still look out for others, but most are for them selves.
Still the trucking world is full of great people dispite the one's who give it a bad name. (i.e. the News Media, some bad drivers, Gung Ho DOT who are nothing but leaches on the tax payers ticket, and a few bad cops that are probably not qualified to drive garbage trucks, but they are out there.) -
Well, cops do it every day I have personlY follwed a cop in the patrol car come to a red light look both ways and go through.I follwed and all he and his partner did was go into buger king to eat, after all that was where i was heading to on my lunch
