I run all 48 a few years ago there were a lot of complaints about the western miles. Not sure if they got there act together. But if you don't get the miles you need. I'm sure you can go otr and get you home in a timely manner. Not sure where in AZ you live. But we have a plant in Toleson, AZ and Our Hyrum plant always have loads going down to phoenix. So if you are on a major freight lane in Arizona. It probably can work out for you.

I think all orientations are done in Greeley, but not sure. If not the Orientation may be in Hyrum Utah.

Cool. thanks for the reply.. been reading alot of your threads and like what you got to say about JBS.. I don't live far from Tolleson so I can get home there too... I drive for Knight Ref right now but they are starting to worry me because when I was hired on, you had to have at least 6 months exp, but now they are becoming a training company like their sister companies..(swift/cr england)..
    Is your truck governed?

Yeah trucks are governed at 65. We train here as well. Don't know if you know him, but I read Smaggs thread about knight ref, and he loved it at first but he can't wait to get away from them now. I'm sure it would be a step up from Knight, but like I said not to many people at JBS know about this thread or care to comment. So not aware of anybody on the Western dedicated, but I know they keep them pretty busy.

I' am new to the forum and was going to go to squire aka knight but after reading through Smaggs thread I have reconsidered!

I spoke with carol at jbs and she tells me that they pay for my entire school up front, my choice of school as long as it is 160 hrs. Then after I finish with a trainer they will start to deduct money out of my check for one year.

I read alot more good about jbs , then the other mega carriers!

Can anyone confirm that this is true as I DO NOT believe anything a salesperson (recruiter) tells me? Thanks

I would recommend anybody over knight. Not sure how all that works out with the training thing, but alot of guys have lasted over a year without that contract. So If you know what you are getting into. You shouldn't have a problem. Just know most of those contracts if you leave b4 the year. You will have to pay them back. So I would try to pick the cheapest, but best school just in case JBS is not the fit you want. I will say we have very tight places we have to get our trailers in and that is at most of the JBS meat plants, but I think you will do good we have pretty good trainers here.

Well, busy is awesome.. like you, I prefer to roll and not waste time sitting.. As far as Knight goes, they never really did me wrong but now theres alot of new guys waiting on trucks and not enough loads either.. weird because they are so big you would think they would stay busy..

65 is good. espically if I'm running in cali alot where it's 55..hehehe..

I use to drive for MAY and they always told me there was no freight going to AZ and thats why they couldn't get me home but they have two local drivers that are busy all the time.. strange.. but they are very bad about over idle time charges.. they don't pay much and charge you on top of it makes it crazy..

Thanks for your help in the answers I'm looking for..

    I really appreciate the info.

I am first trying to get a grant and I was only looking at it as a second option!

After talking to alot of drivers on this forum and at truckstops things can get confusing.
If I do have to go through company paid training it will probably be
    jbs 1st, prime 2nd, and central 3rd!:biggrin_255:

if you go to Soutwest Truck Driver Training, they will finance you or if you get a grant thats awesome too.. they have 100 % job placement.. pretty good school but not much training on log books.. just remember whatever company you go with make sure they have a yard or terminal in phoenix area so they can get you home easier.. May pays $150 month back for school as long as your there..stay far away from swift or werner.. Knight is not bad either to start at and their main terminal is here so they will get you home.. I will give them that..
