Hiya Rooster. I enjoyed reading your post about the training so far. I start school on Monday to get my CDL and have been trying to decide which company would be good to start with. Can you tell me how long you are with trainers before you are on your own with Con-Way? Also, I was curious about how difficult it was to get on there?

    Rooster13 Thanks this.

Hey Rooster. You can also check out my thread over here as I'm one of those who returned from Crowder on Monday when you came in. ;) Have fun down there! Just wait til you get to the obstacle course near the end of your week. It's a lot of fun.

That might work. I kinda gotten used to highside, so I think that might stick. Who knows what will happen tho.

Thanks for reading. First, good luck with school. Just show up and do what you're supposed to do and you'll be fine. Conway was my number 1 choice, for a few reasons. Mainly because they had the fewest complaints and the most amount of praises on here and on other sites. (For companies that take student drivers.) Second biggest reason is because they have a pet policy and i want to take my dog with me. (I know some people are going to read this and whether you disagree or not, I'd rather not get into a debate. Fankly I don't really care. I know I'm clean, and I keep my schit clean. this isn't what this thread is for. This wasn't directed at you Stormy its the people who are going to read this and disagree with me.) Anyway the rest of the reasons are because of the pay and training/home time the usual. To your next question, you have to spend a week at Crowder. My room mate out it this way, Its the worlds longest job interview. And that's exactly what it is. While you are here whether its in Joplin or Neosho, you are a representative of Conway, and they will terminate you if you don't follow their guidelines. They don't play around here. Just act like a professional, which at this point you are or at least should be. After the week at crowder you have to do 10,000 miles with a trainer. NO TEAMING with your trainer. he is up and in the jump seat when you are driving. He will drive sometimes (I hear) but no quite often. Its all you. 10'000 miles should take you roughly 4-5 weeks, maybe 6. Then you have to come back to Joplin and test out (upgrade) to get your own truck. The test is at the terminal. Then you are on your own. So figure about a month and a half almost 2 months being away from home. To your last question Conway doesn't take just anyone. I can tell from our group of people and the group of people before us. This group is clean (as far as I know) They dress well, and they all have great attitudes. actually 8/9 of us have great attitudes but that's nor here or there. Hopefully the quality of trainers is the same. You need to have a good driving history, my last ticket was 4 years ago, my last "accident" was last summer and was to no fault of my own. You cant have more that 4 jobs in the last 5 years (I think) I just made that, and they understand the economy being bad and all, they know. No criminal convictions and no refused drug tests. I hope this helps. keep me posted to your status with Conway if that's the direction you decide to go. Best of luck. If there are anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask. I will do my best to try and give you a correct answer to your question.

Whats the name of your thread? I'll subscribe. You hook up with a trainer yet? If you have some input feel free to post on here. Any heads up would be appreciated.

Alright drivers, and wannabes, and in betweens (Me): Day 3

Day 3 started out the same as day 2. 7am pickup and a short class time. We watched some videos, a promo video for CAT engines (which they don't make anymore.) O.k....it was a progressive shifting video but in all honesty it was a shameless plug for CAT. Lets call a spade a spade. After the video we did a map reading exercise and went over some topics on the final exam. After that we went outside and reviewed drop and hooks (the Conway way) until lunch. We broke for our usual hour for lunch and after lunch we jumped into the trucks and hit the roads of Neosho for a drive. We were graded on searching and scanning/ shifting/turning etc. I'm not sure if the grades go back to Conway or not but don't fret nobody got below an 85. We returned back to our Hotel around 3:30 and here we sit. We have to be up tomorrow morning at 3am to get into the trucks at 330. They pick us up at the hotel and we do our night drive. We should be out tomorrow around noon or earlier. So....until tomorrow. If you have any questions/ concerns send em my way. Ill keep this open for another hr. If I don't get to you tonight I definitely will tomorrow.

Rooster you don't know how much just reading and having a little intel as to what is going on day to day helps the new guys/gals..I sure am appreciative of having some sort of a idea, as getting in with Con-way and working is my main goal.

Also myself and the other two guys coming up are Vets so we know all about doing the right thing, doing what your told.

With out going to much into detail also what is the Con-way hook and drop, and why is it any different then any other ????:biggrin_2556:

Hey I know it's "not wat this is for" BUT my dog goes with a buddy of mine and if you can splurge on an Ionize HEPA filter to plug in 2 times a week my buddy says there will be as close to no hair or smell. He is lazy and hates cleaning the truck and swears by it and to be honest from what I've seen it works. You can't even tell he has an animal in there
