May 2009 I stopped driving big rigs n had 3 years OTR at the time and went to work as a mechanic to try n help a friend get his business goingbut economy wasn't all that good then n took the nose dive it did not all the lnog after. Up until April this year we did all we could to keep it going but had to finally close it and was looking into getting back into driving big rigs and have hit nothing but dead ends. I know I'll have to take a refresher course ( so back to newbie status all but in past erxperience ) but the problem I am having is that the trucking company's I have talked to all want W2's to verify employment where as last time I was applying for a big rig job they called to verify any employment not having to do with drivng a big rig " safety sensitive job " and any jobs you list for driving a big rig if not on your dac report you had to show W2's. When my friend started the shop he wasn't paying taxes but was going once it was up and going decent which never happend because the economy took the dive it did which also meant I was only paid in cash so no W2's, I can verify that I worked just not with W2's so my ? is do ALL company's now require W2's to show work history even if the job was not driving big rigs because if that is the case I won't be getting back into driving big rigs after all. Thanx for any reply's on this or any leads about company's I should contact if there are any.

I have had a couple of places I worked for go out of business. As long as you have a phone number and name for them to contact and send a fax to it shouldnt have been a problem. You may have given them too much info about the situation so maybe they think it sounds hokey to them and now they want proof.

Get up a letter of some sort, maybe by your friend, or your accountant, or a lawyer, and have it "notarized", and have that as "some proof" of your employment.

Sometimes, a "man of the cloth", or another businessman, or "other high standing person" in your community can be of some help with this letter.

They want proof of your where abouts.

A bunch of horse pucky, but hey, they rule and we drool.

If you dont have a W-2, did you do a 1099? Getting paid under the table and not paying any income tax wont count for this... LOL

Not to "jack" this mans thread - but, in a similar vein, I've been self-employed for the last 30 years. I DO have tax returns/W-2's from my Sub-S Corp to myself.

Am I going to need to dig these up, in order to verify - or - are they more specifically looking for "documentable history" in the Transportation Industry?

"Documented history", which INCLUDES what you already have. So YES, you NEED to do some digging, but like I said earlier, your accountant, or lawyer can help by typing up a letter, then YOU get it notarized.

One or two offers do not make a "ton".

Not everyone can be so lucky as you.

lolz its not luck i have 4 otr hire offers from watkins shep, schneider, swift, May and 1 local flat bed all called my "former employers" :biggrin_2559: but with any luck in Texas oil patch this week i wont be taking any of them decent ones too if OTR or Local is your thing you would be good to go but these are my fallbacks if i strike out in Texas. Luck has nothing to do with it all about who you know and who has your back. Good luck dont over think things.
