well, i just went through yrc orientation in charlotte. 7 to 3;30 with no lunchbreak, man i got a splitting headache from not eating. i could tell there's a lot of inner strife in the company, between the roadway guys and yellow guys. they tried to gloss it over, but you can feel it. i feel like i wasted a good saturday by going. i don't believe this job is what it use to be....:biggrin_25513:

Thats going to be at every terminal, trust me when I say that. I only know of two guys who were ex-roadway guys and dont trash talk, and a few old school yellow guys who dont trash talk. With the "re-brand" they are trying to eliminate that. All new trucks are white now, no more orange or blue. Thats part of the rebranding.

I know an ex-roadway guy who I worked with back at CWF and all he said was Roadway was better, and how yellow when they bought them out took all the ways they worked. Now a guy at Yellow says that Yellow was the superior company and they had a lot better things than roadway. Two weeks ago I was assigned an old-school Roadway line haul unit(after a while they will make then p/d trucks) and the guy who trained me who was an old school roadway guy kept saying "oh you got the good tractor now". I also hear the roadway equipment was maintained better and newer, which is true at my terminal because the roadway equipment is newer than the yellow, but all trucks seem to run fine, new or old(ive driven pretty much everyones truck, my favorites the old school internations retired line haul units)

Now I will give you a little suggestion on how to survive... You will here tons of trash talking between the two. When I hear it I just nod my head and say ok. I dont get involved in it and dont judge or say anything better about either company. I never worked for either so I cant. According to skinnytrucker on here he told me YRC is trying to end all the stupid behavior that goes on with the drivers.

No, It's not like it used to be, but hell, things are different everywhere. Out of all the places that called me, YRC was my first choice. I feel grateful they are giving me a chance (I only have 1 year's experience). And hell, if it turns out I don't care for the company, I can always move on. I will give them a solid year though, no matter what, but, I fully plan on staying with them.

I don't know. Maybe ACH1130 can chime in w/the answer. Anyway, I was in the Teamsters for 15 years (Route Salesman) before I came to FedEx 2 years ago & our dues were $52.00 a month back then if I remember correctly, but, I believe the dues amount is different from company to company.

Do yourself a big favor and stay outta the Yellow vs. Roadway argument. There is still a lot of strife between the two groups of workers but it will take a generation to rid the company of that. Back in the 90's abf bought out a company called Carolina and they still have problems to this day between the two. Not sure why this goes on but I stay out of it. It's just not worth it to me. The union dues are two and a half times your hourly wage and will be the best money you spend all month long. I'm a road driver outta Chicago so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Things are very busy now and you picked a great time to hire on. Good luck and be safe.

Forgot to mention, I'm not on this board that often because there is another message board out there made specifically for us freight guys. I'm on that one more. If you want that site you can pm me and I will send it to you.
