I do not have a fax machine here at the scales. This is not a truck stop, we do not provide fax services for drivers.
As far as officer discretion, yes I have discretion in the level of enforcement action (ticket/warning). If the book states that documents must be in written form, I do not have discretion to re-write the book.

Quick question regarding the use of paper logs... my company uses the 60 hour work week scale because we are local, basically it is M-F hardly ever work a Saturday. Regarding the 34 reset guidelines do I need to have a page in my log book showing Saturday and Sunday as being off??
-
Yes you need to log those days. You can place multiple days on a single sheet just put the start and end date on your off duty days. Well unless the company policy is you must log each separately. I have run into log software that does not recognize multi-day pages.pyro1711 and Onetruckpony Thank this.

Not worried about a 72 hr.blitz. If everyone was doing their job there woull be no need for the checks. But a lot of guys think a pre-trip is to make sure the radio is on the right station.
Onetruckpony and 48Packard Thank this. -
If a driver is driving w/exposed wiring on his steers he doesn't even need to be on the road.Whether he is pulling Hazmat or not.My co.changes out steers @ 6/32" and drives and trl.tires @ 4/32".Also get the truk DOT inspection every 2-3 months and trls.every 3 months.
If I think a tire needs changed they will change it.
As to idiots taking turns to fast it doesn't matter what they are hauling there is a chance they will kill someone. -
Anyone who states" if your legal you have nothing to worry about" is naive. Most DOT I have dealt with were very profesional and even courteous. I haul alot of brand new trailers from the factory. I had a fed dot officer argue with me because it didn't have a dot inspection yet. This was the east POE IN on 70 during roadcheck 2010. After searching his book for 30 min he let me go. There is atleast one total prick at the Early,IA scale. The % of pricks driving trucks is higher than the ones in uniform from my experience.
keepntruckin and x#1 Thank this. -
YOu going to put that same idiotic technology for speed limiters in cars as well?
how about forcing accident avoidance systems into a car as well?
Who's going to pay to put a certified scale every 50 miles in a network across this entire country?
Come on, think about it before you make those kind of demands.misterG and vangtransport Thank this. -
Sorry, it was just a rant on my behalf!! I'd just like to see the industry police itself, I think we would be better off that way.

Be careful what you wish for. I know of "at least" 3 state scales within a mile of a paper mill. None of the mills allow axle weighing. Gross only.
I was in PA this weekend. State scale directly across from the entrance of mill. Fortunately it's PA and they have better hours than any banker ever had. So it was closed.
