Yeah, I went to Western Pacific in Sacramento, CA. Oh, and my BF went with me, and we are trying to find a team job OTR! We live in Rancho Cordova, CA. It looks like Covenant will take us both for orientation anyway, and that looks like the only one so far.
See, we talked to May Trucking, and they have only one female trainer, and she is out of work (Injury) for at least 6 months! I have to get to work, my unemployment runs out this week. And, even if my BF went with MAy, it would be 6 months before he could train me, so no matter what I'd be out of work for another 6 months, and then have to pay for a refresher class!

Have you ever worked for Covenant? No, you haven't. Teamed? No, you haven't.
Covenant treats their teams very well, solo drivers not so much. -
Hey blue have you tried central ref? I hear they take pretty good care of their husband n wife teams. Watkins is a good company too. I don't know how they are with their teams though, AT could probably tell you more about that.

So I guess my interview today went pretty well. I sat down with the guy and talked about what little experience I have driving and then he kind of explained the job to me. After about 5-10 minutes he said he was going to go see if he had a driver who could give me a drive test. He came back and took me out into the yard and introduced me to one of their drivers and I jumped up in the drivers seat and off we went. Took a 15-20 minute drive around the area and back to the yard. He signed me off saying I did fine! Went back to the office and we talked for a few more minutes and he handed me a sheet of paper and sent me off to drug test! Said that as soon as they get the results back that I'll be getting a call from HR to come in and do paperwork and get processed into the company! So I should be starting towards the end of the week or the beginning of next week. I'll be driving a mixer truck to start out on but will eventually move on to other stuff. Training on the mixer should take 2-4 weeks then I'll be out on my own. They do mixers, tanks, dumps, bottom dumps, and transfers and I'm hoping to learn all of them. The great thing about this job is it's Mon-Fri, normal hours, home every night, decent pay(with regular raises), benefits, and I'll get experience on more an just one thing. I'm pretty stoked right now!

Sounds like you are in, since they sent you for the drug screen already. Good deal! Hope you get the job.
I just got back from day 1 at WPT.
The regular instructor had a family emergency, so she will not be there this week. Bob, one of the other trainers basically spent the day reading the CDL manual to us. It's a cool class so far. Thursday we will go to DMV for permits, and go from there. Was nice to spend the whole day not on the couch.thePUNISHER Thanks this. -
Thanks! Bob is a cool guy. He's the one who taught our class. Funny guy.
-
Yep, he is definitely a truck driver.
No mistakin' it.
We are kind of lucky because Bob likes to smoke, so we get lots of breaks.lol.
-
Yeah he's an old school trucker that's for sure and he definitely smokes, A LOT, LOL. I was thankful for that too. Spend a few hours learnin, take a smoke break. Breaks up the day so you don't feel like you're trapped in a classroom all day.
