So I'm struggling, obviously with driving, but it gets better everyday. Finally at the point where I'm not grinding while up shifting, jerky sometimes, but not grinding. #Only took about a week to get that down. #Downshifting is getting better, specially to get it into a proper gear before turning at an intersection. I'd rather the light turn red, lol.
But that's not the reason I'm posting this. This has to do with the constant badgering, constant insults, and feeling worthless. #This is how 5 out of 11 students in my class have felt in the 2 weeks of training so far. #So far, currently 3 of those 5 have gotten new trainers. One of those 3 orig trainers is getting fired. #The other 2 students, I'm one of them, are getting sick of feeling like no matter what we do...it's wrong. I understand that the instructors are there to correct our mistakes, but to go to the extreme of calling students #%&@+?# idiots, ######## about grinding gears (to the point of almost going deaf), basically becoming the ##### of the truck. #Now I also understand that is basically what I am, but is it fair? #Some of us are willing to walk from this company due to this. #
Trainers KNOW that they will be training new students with no experience, so why the need to do that? Personally, I think Central should cover the tranny. #
Another thing I'm going to grip about, is they way our trainers are "teaching" us. #So it's cool that he tells us when to turn when he is outside the truck. But...we are watching him, not looking for marks in when to turn or when to follow up with the truck. #I asked him about it and his response? "You'll just know".
Him telling me when to turn at a corner, instead of explaining where my tandems need to be before I start cutting.
Now let's talk about downgrades and hills. That's something I will take as experience helps, but when you are first learning, hearin him butch about how slow you are going down a hill, really? I'm sorry, I'm not 100% comfortable yet. I don't know the limits of the tractor/trailer. I don't always know how much of an effect different types of product can shift weight around. So I'd rather make sure I make it down safely, I'd rather be sure that I was set up for a corner. But to hear the trainer yelling the whole time about speeding up, to say I should be in 7L instead of 6H, is it really worth it? I personally don't think so. #
There's plenty more that I have to complain about. #But typing this out on an iPhone isn't the easiest.
I guess this was more of a rant than anything. Ideas, flaming me for complaining, whatever...I'll take it all. This guy just doesn't care about what I bring up as an issue. #And maybe this is to help new employees/students decide in their future.
Arghhh!!! Seriously Central?!

And a lil more about me...I'm the guy that will ask questions because I want to know what I'm doing wrong and how to correct my mistakes. I will be watching how you do things and ask why you did it a certain way. I take most stuff with a grain of salt, unless you talk about my kids. I am honestly losing faith in Central, who they use as trainers. If this is the #### is be putting up with here, it's not worth it to be away from my family.

If you think training is bad.
Wait until you deal with a dispatcher. Regardless of the name on the door. -
As a student, you will always be wrong. The trainer is supposed to criticize you but also tell you "good job" when you EARN that compliment. If you cannot take the heat, then get outta the kitchen.
If any one of you want to walk away?? Go right ahead, there are hundreds more willing to take your place.
Trainers put you through your paces. They need to see if you can handle the day to day stress of the road and all conditions you will be exposed to. Some trainers however, are just jerks, but you wanted this job, didn't you?? So basically, stop your biotching.
so do you seriously think that you will have marks on the road all the freaking time?? When did you expect to "you'll just know"??? Sooner or later, you had BETTER KNOW, without looking for chalk marks, paint, shadows on the ground. this is the job now, not school.
i think this is why you need mirrors, so you CAN SEE WHAT IS GOING ON??
If you do not wish to hear him telling you what gear you belong in, then it's your fault when you crash, burn out your brakes or rear-end someone at a later time.
All you are doing is the typical cry baby newbie stuff, what you can't handle it, get out now. If you cannot put up with the BS, you are weak, and weak minded, and will most certainly not last more than I dare say, 6 months before you put your tail between your legs an whimper away.
Please go ahead and walk off, this will get you an abandonment against you, or at the very least, an incredibly hard time finding another trucking job. I actually knew it, yet another newbie that thought trucking was going to be all peaches and cream, and freaking perfect.N172, chompi and biggare1980 Thank this. -
#### Tony, you bucking for my ***hole of the forum title??
I've held it for almost 3 years. But I smell competition. LOL
Challenge accepted.

Did I ever say it was going to be a walk in the park? No, I knew that it was going to be a stressful job when I signed up. I knew I was going to be away from my kids in order to put a roof over their head.
As for the always being wrong part, I understand I will always be wrong, I know that. But I personally feel it would be more productive and make more sense to explain why you did something wrong and how to correct it, instead talking #### trying to make himself feel better about himself? Pretty stupid
Did I ask for marks on the road? Nope. I said that he was just tellin me when to turn and when to follow up/through. Ya that's nice, but he isn't going to be there. Shouldn't he be explaining what to be
Looking for? Do I start correcting when the tandems wheels stop turning? Do I need to know when to start following through when doing an alley dock? Ya, not just when he says to.
Also kinda hard to look in the mirror at the tandems when he's leaning forward and I can't see what exactly he is looking for in the corner. You know, I can look in the mirrors 10 times before I start turning, but if I don't know at what point to start my turn at the intersection, I'll still take out the sign.
Next, hich gear, he tells me to NEVER use my brakes on a downgrade, unless traffic requires me to. Ok cool, what about variable grades/turns? Too bad I cant brake...
So before you say "another rookie" why dont you read what I posted. Not just see another complaint. If your the guy just looking for complaints, then this forum is goin to hate you. Hope we don't see you on the bad company side of this forum.
. But thanks...for the input. Anything people say helps me, in one way or another. And we are all entitled to our own opinion on the Internet. I just try. It to have Internet balls/ego. Have a great day Tony!

Personal insight:
Remember that many "trainers" have never had any authority in their entire life. No one ever had to report to them....they perhaps never had to oversee and supervise anyone. So NOW that they have the opportunity, they don't know how to handle it.
For some, it's a power issue. For others, it is more insecurity in that if you don't do well, they become overly sensitive to appearing as a weak trainer. Not saying either is OK...just the way it is in many cases.
You kind of have to be an armchair psychologist to figure out which is the case. Doesn't make it any easier, but there is my two cents worth. -
No student is ever the ##### of the truck.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2012

I've heard that they, as trainers, their training position depends on how well the students do in their upgrade test. So you would think that they would want to work with you in your issues, not just telling you what you are doing wrong. Life isn't fair, but when somebody else's lifestyle is in the line, you would think they would want to do their best to make sure you understand everything to be able to go solo.

When you say no student is ever the ##### of the truck, mind explaining why? Cause I feel I am, I don't mind being it as long as I'm learning and not just doing everything wrong only to hear him get pissed.
