Hello,
I am a military vet retiring this year. I am looking to drive truck in the oilfields. Any thought on companies that will hire and provide training?
Thanks

Go to the VA and get CDL training that way you won't owe anybody

I hear on the radio in Odessa area that some offer CDL. training not sure though.your best bet is to come here with your CDL. in hand.

The other answers, that you get your training through the VA are good answers. You would owe something to any company that trains you. Some will refund school loans you need for CDL school. Depending on your financial situation, community colleges are less expensive, state unemployment agencies can get you voc training, and regular CDL schools will usually find you financing (ie: VA loans) All of those are probably better than getting company sponsored training. On the other hand, it can't be all bad to do something like what Key Energy offers. If I were you, I'd be looking at Halliburton and Schlumberger, depending on how long you've been in the military and what you did.Last edited: May 5, 2012

I see a few jobs in the area listed on CraigsList Victoria and some even mention no experience or CDL graduates. Keep looking folks the jobs are out there!

Rock doctor...just started working with a company in Victoria as a water hauler(for those looking- there are companies here with hiring signs in front of their locations looking for CDL drivers...I drive by them every day, the jobs are here folks) but would like to PM you a few questions on crude if you don't mind. I would like to make the transition to crude since I hear the money is a bit better. Do you mind if I shoot over a few questions?

I saw some equipment trucks tonight for a company called Platinum. Anyone familiar with them?
Been seeing a lot of Stallion trucks running around. They drive some pretty sweet looking Macks! -
Drove by a yard today on HWY 77 west of Victoria and saw a banner hanging in front of a company called Peak Oilfield Services. They are looking to hire some CDL drivers.
cisco and pathfinder1361 Thank this. -
I've been living and working in the Midland, TX area for the last year. The high price of available housing is absolutely ridiculous. Can anyone give me some insite as to the availability of housing and if rents are reasonable?
Thanks
